We were at willow creek on Thursday and Friday.
Saw no pigs. Couldn't walk very far because just before the trip on a hike, I fell and bruised my leg rather badly. From the knee to the ankle is literally purple.
The first morning I walked the 700ft down a half mile into the canyon. I was testing a theory that the tracks I had seen last week were a large pig crossing the creek in the same spot over several days. Normally I would have found a cozy little spot in one of several saddles along the ridge. I just don't know what the timing to the pattern is. I still don't know because I was there in the morning and back in the evening. Nobody showed. Unless he's crossing in the middle of the day. Or middle of the night.
The cattle are back on the ranch and geez they can bust you in an area. From the information I have previously gathered, the pigs move between 3 ranches in the area. On the WU ranch, there were 5-6 hunters on 5000acres. The pigs get about that much pressure 4days a week on that ranch. I don't know what the pressure is like on the adjoining ranches.
Saw lots of quail. Saw lots of bunnies waving their furry little butts at me with that "nyah-nyah we're not legal to shoot now, dance. Todd saw a couple of deer as well.
Last year was the first time I ever shot a bunny. I'd shot birds before, but never bunnies. Dammit, they're cute. So this last year as I say, I was out on this same ranch and didn't see much pig sign, so I went wandering out with the 20 gauge and killed a bunny. He thrashed around a little, rolled down the hill and died. I walk down to pick it up and I am thinking "Oh my God, I've killed a cute little bunny!" Then from somewhere in my brain there comes this song. It goes;
Here comes Peter Cottontail,
Hoppin' down the bunny trail,
Hippety-hoppety-BOOM!!
Dinner's on it's way......
With just a little help from the pressure cooker, that bunny was delicious. Sure went good with the beans I grew in the back yard.
Yes, indeed, I must be some kind of barbarian.
That's all the story I have for now.
