Out at the ranch some cow died. The pigs flock to the thing like flies to sh**. My buddies' dad won't shoot one off of it because they're eating it and the maggots and all that crap. You can chase them off of it and they're back in a couple of minutes. Should we just wait it out and let them get it out of their system. We're afraid that we'll get a case of that bad smelling and tasteing pig. Has anyone encountered this before.
I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Moving the cow and burring it? Or just leave it and let decompose?

I'll be heading out there tomorrow.

I remember some here posting a pic of a pigglet in a cow's carcass, weird thing to see. As for the pigs, let them do their thing. Thats naturally for them. I don't think it would make the meat taste different since thats not their main diet. Good luck on the hunt.

Used to shoot pigeons at a pig farm. Once in a while we'd dump a bird that fell into the hogs' pen. They made short work of it feathers and all. These were "domestic" pigs! My guess is the wild hogs eat a lot more meat than is known. They won't pass up a good protein source when found, be it carrion or a captured critter.

A resident of Fort Jones,CA used to take his truck around the local roads picking up deer carcasses which he threw in the pen to feed his pigs. They made short work of the deer.In biology class we saw movies of pigs eating rats that inadvertantly wandered into the pen.Pigs will eat about anything.Friends said the end product was tasty pork!

....On a serious note, I wouldnt worry to much about it. Hogs are gonna feed on "Whatever they can" and in the wild you dont get to see everything there eatin. Bet you butt that they eat dead things all the time. Shoot em up!!!!!!

Pigs will be pigs & their stomach system is so much more acidic than a human(a cats stomach is 20 times more acidic than our stomachs) that it kills the germs & the pigs do not suffer any illness but instead keep on happily chomping everafter.
I would draw a bead, pull the trigger & fire up the B-B-Q. 'Nuff said.

Bust 'em, and enjoy the use of your new "food plot". They pigs will be coming to that thing until there's nothing left but stinking dust.

They'll stink on the outside, and I wouldn't want to gutshoot one, but I'd imagine the meat is perfectly alright.

And best of all... you can let us know first hand!

I'd be careful for cross-contamination for botulism. Wash up thoroughly the body before skinning it and discard the meat in entry and exit points of the wound.

Otherwise, you'll have a hollywood style youthful look (sorry for this grim joke, just can't help it).

just saw the group of young 13 boars feeding one the cow today, and it is pretty impossible to put a stalk on them with the bow being that the cow in on a open flat,

I think i'd feel more comfortable shooting one out of the neighbor's barley field, now just if they'd cross the fence to water... saw five pretty good sized pigs in that field today, but after they finished their business they moved off up into the hills

bomber day for bucks though say over 30 with 6-7 definite brusers including a bachelor herd of 12

Anyone watch the western Deadwood on HBO. They use the Chinamans hogs to dispose of the people they kill.

Oh and the activity you observe is why Muslims won't eat pork.

They dispose of bodies on The Sopranos in the same way. Is it really true pigs will eat everything, bones included?

My cousins neighbor,(a pig farmer) evidently fell into one of the pens and broke his leg. The pigs pretty much took care of him.
