Pigs around Pine Flat Reservoir

Has anyone seen or taken any pigs around pine Flat Reservoire(Fresno)? I have read about the Hume Lake Ranger station and Camp 4 1/2 but have yet to see anything.

Yes occasionally there is some pigs around the lake, but good luck finding them your guess is as good as mine. I have taken pigs on private land near there, but not on the lake itself.

I will give what info. I have.

There is some public land up Lafevre creek where I have seen sign and heard them rooting, but I haven't been successful in taking one there yet. Take the boat to Lefevre and you will want to hike the left (east) side of the ridge. You have about a mile and half or so that you can hike back before reaching a fence line. You cannot cross that fence. There are a couple of other BLM spots around the lake but I have never seen any sign.

Oops, sorry I should have mentioned that you will need to take a boat to Lefevre Creek, which is across from the old Lombardo's Marina area. Again, I can't stress enough to take a look at a quality BLM map to make sure you are in the right area.

Surfdawgg I have been planing a trip to that very area as I have heard the same info from one of our local fishing and hunting stores. The map I have been looking at shows about 1 mile or so as well. Thanks for the info John I'll let you know what I see. Brian

As I was thinking about it, there is a tree when you first get back up off the rock shelf around creek itself. That is where I have the majority of the rooting, as well as a little ways back from there. Your best bet is probably going to be morning, trying to jump them as they move away from the water source.

Thanks John, I am going to try and be there before daybreak. I have a feeling the pigs in that area have gone nocturnal.

Just be sure you watch out for the rattlesnakes...we went camping there a few years back and they were poisoning them there were so dang many. One of the guys killed one within 5 minutes of arrival.

The rattler's are not active now. I was up there last nov. and walked right up on one and it didn't move so with it being this cold lately I am pretty sure they are done for the year.

I thought Rattlers are yummy snacks for pigs. And if there are pigs there, rattlers shouldn't as thick. Just my

If the pigs hunting doesn't go well, hike back a bit further, and you will come up on a little draw where there are tons of squirrels, set up a call for coyotes and you won't be disappointed with a little varmit hunting. A buddy and I were there last time saw two loping away from us at about 100 yards, he got on a mouth call and they got to within five yards of us. Sadly we had lost sight of them until they peeked around the rock at us and it surprised us so much that we couldn't get our bows up in time to take them. A good rabbit in distress call works in that area as well.

Thanks John I will give it a try. Have you ever taken the hike into Bulch Camp and watched the Deer Migration after the season has ended? I know the Coyotes tend to stay around the deer this time of year. I know you are in Nevada now but if you have the chance I highly recomend the hike. Thanks again for all the information.
