Had a hell of a hunt today. Headed out to rock front ranch for quail. Got 4 birds and a pig. Nailed that pig about 30 yds away with my security six. She had comapny as well. 3 others. It was crazy though, never thought pigs would be in that area. Go figure.

Turkey Slayer...OK, I'll ask!

Where the heck is Rock Front Ranch?

Congrats on getting that "incidental" pig. The meat will probably taste just as good, and probably less work to get it!

Two more weekends of deer hunting, and I'll be turning my thoughts to our porcine friends!

Nice job TurkeySlayer! I suppose you went down around the flats near Rock front springs or something like that? My dad and I would go to that area when i was younger and go to Santa Maria just about every weekend. I have heard of pigs taken from that area, but never seen one or promising sign. Congrats on your pig!! Sounds like it was a pretty smooth take.

Hey, before I ship out, I'll give several of you guys a different secret public land pig hunting spot. Just hit me up around Nov.5. Or maybe some of us could get together for a hunt.I take most of my pigs off public land. Just it was weird seeing one in that area of rock front. But I remember there being water caves there now from when i used to deer hunt there as a little lad. It's all coming together. I've only got one pic of a pig I got actually.I always forget to take a pic till its too late. But I dont have a scanner anyways.

Turk, I'd love to do a hunt, My Deer season is a bust with all the closures and my freezer is empty. E-mail the place and time and I'll be there.

turkeyslayer,

Check out the JHP Events section. There are two JHP hunts coming up, one at Fort Hunter on the weekend of the 9th and one at Carrizo on the weekend of the 23rd.

How close to Vandenburg is this place? I'm considering going up there this weekend for some pig hunting.

Hey, Turkeyslayer, I live in Nipomo and have hunted Rock Front for years. I've never seen a pig in there. I've killed a couple bucks, and more dove and quail and cottontail that I could count. I'm game for a hunt, e-mail me and maybe we could hook up. Keith
