I have tryed in the past with no luck and wondered if someone could point me in the right direction to go by Pine Flat. I really would like to kill a hog and would appreciate all the help i can get.

Wish I could help, but cant think of anything off of the top of my head. Let me look at a book I have and see what they list for BLM around the area you mentioned.

FHP12,
I "wander" that area frequently and I can't say that I've seen any hogs--some iffy signs though. Seen turkeys and lots of deer. Its a big area and you just need to methodically start scouting one area and go from there. There are areas that are closed to hunting, so be aware and look for signs posted. DFG from the Fresno office patrol the area frequently (specially on weekends) so you might want to visit their office--they should be able to help you.
Bring comfortable hiking shoes and snake gaiters/chaps. Park at any of the turn-offs and head into the hills.
Good luck!

Foothills - There have been other threads on this topic. I think if you were to search for previous threads you might come up with something. I think you need to include the word "reservoir"... "pine flat reservoir" ??? I'm not certain though. I recall people saying somthing about the east end of the lake for hogs. It has always been somewhere I wanted to check out but just haven't gotten up there yet. Good luck.

Here's some information found in the Guide To Hunting Wild Pigs in California.

Hume Lake Ranger District - Sequoia National Forest.
Call the ranger district office at 559-338-2251

Location and Access: From hwy 99 at Fresno, go east on Highway 180 about 40 miles to the District Ranger Station.

Size: 187,900 acres.

Wild pigs are found only at the lower elevations west of Pine Flat Reservoir. The McKenzie/Delilah area is fairly good during the summer. There is no winter hunting due to snow.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

I've been following this web-site for a few years and this is my first post.
<
I'm a full time student at Fresno State. I'll share some intelligence here:

1) Last year (Fall) of 2003 I was driving around just below Pine Flat dam and spotted 2 wild hogs on some private property.
<

2) A couple miles from there on North Elwood Road is a shack with a guy raising a breed of pig that looks like a wild hog. The story is that he's a bit crazy and to be avoided. I don't know if some of his have escaped or if he sells them off or what.

3) A couple of older local guys have each independently told me to take a boat in Pine Flat Reservoir up "LeFevre Creek" and start there. That's the same area covered in the DFG's Wild Pig Book's map.

4) When I inquired about pigs near Pine Flat Reservoir at the DFG office (2 blocks from campus) a game warden with a stupid grin said "Inquire with some local landowners" - yeah, sure
<

[5) A girl here in the campus computer lab says that they're all over her daddys 90 acres (bordering Nat'l Forest land) in Dunlap which is just down the road. (And yes, of course, upon hearing this news I got down on one knee and proposed...)
<

Good hunting and let us know what you find out....

Welcome to JHO. That's one hell of a first post, thanks for the info.
<
I'm thinking of heading over there sometime towards the end of the month
<
So, any other info you can add would be great. Does it cost anything to hunt within this area, and I assume there's camping there?

Thanks, and once again, welcome!!

Spot n Stalk...welcome to the site.

Hope you share more in the future.

Foothills...as you might have guessed by now, the hogs are there. Unfortunately, unless you know a landowner they're hard to find since most are on private property. I know there are hogs below (west of) Pine Flat, but again on private property. I've been told, never been myself, that if you cross the upper end of the lake, where the Kings comes in, and climb Oat Mountain, you'll find a lot of hogs. Again, only second-hand info. Best of luck.

Had a brother-in-law who use to bring one home from "Delilah" every now and then, course he spent the night in jail more than once for various F&G violations, so his were probably from private property.

The hogs are definitely out there. I got one last year on some private lands right near there.

Welcome Aboard

Hello, new to this site... and I live in Visalia. Just getting into pig hunting and am a "research fanatic." Here's what I've been able to compile after researching for less than a week. Basically after about 3 hours of phone calls I found what I was looking for. All I can say at this point because I haven't been out to these areas to verify it yet, but the references in that hunting pig publication is talking about Delilah Lookout and McKenzie Ridge area south and east of Pine Flat. There are supposed to be some pigs out there, I hear it's steep terrain. The pigs are supposed to run along the private/Nat'l Forest Land border south of Delilah Lookout area. You need to get a hold of a Sequoia Nat'l Forest map. Call DFG Office in Fresno and see if you can get a hold of the Biologist that works out of that office. Anyone who is an experienced hunter and wouldn't mind going out with me (a newbie) I'd be willing to share my "tips" with you.

Welcome aboard Chad. My parents live in Visalia, and when I go up to visit them from Bakersfield, it would be nice to have someone to hunt with. If you would like, email me your contact info and I will get in touch with you so we can go knock us down some piggies.

Jess.
