Went up to pine yesterday didnt even know where to start my hunt, didnt see any thing related to pigs but found a heavy use deer trail that has a nice freash rub on the side, tons of pegion but no guage. Went back over to dunlap and met a guy who invite my to hunt with him on some ranches so will see how I do but the way he said sounds good, 4 pigs 1day solo hunt.

I know what you guess mean, been up there trying to locate some pigs, very hard. The hardest thing is to know where to start. I'm still trying to find some fresh sign, so far everything I found has been old. I know of a couple of guys that have gotten some, but they've just been lucky enought to see the pigs cross the road.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (jackrabbit @ Dec 24 2008, 12:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div>
"that place is too thick" -- what's the matter Beezer, afraid of a little brush? I am determined to get through the thick stuff to where I know those pigs sleep during the day -- just got to get my 35 y/o nephew to beef up his cajones to do a little more tunnel-ratting with me!!.

As far as JHO, looks like CAhntr has drawn first blood. I am willing to bet I will draw 2nd blood come winter 2009 before any of the rest of you guys!! I think I know a couple places beyond the thick stuff that no man has walked within at least the last 3 decades -- it is too thick! I haven't been able to find a route into them yet; but I will prevail! And I will post pictures! I'll even post pictures of the stars at night so the rest of you guys can try and triangulate the honey hole![/b]

if it were a little brush i wouldnt have a problem but dang that place is THICK! i tried to get to the top of one of the hills where all the pigeons kept flying back and fourth landing and such but i got half ways up and it just kept getting thicker and thicker so i decided to go back down. One of the guys i went with was far more determined than me and he made it up and said there was lots of clearings up there so ill give it a shot sometime this week.
Everytime i go out i always tell myself im gonna go beat some brush this time but when i really get out there my determination just jumps off a cliff.

you better hurry up Jackrabbit because im gonna hit it hard in a couple of weeks, i managed to get a month off of work starting early Jan.

yeah Beezer, been there, done that! If I was sure if it were legal or not, I might even post that I've gone up there with pruning shears and nippers to try to blaze a trail to where I know the pigs sleep -- but since I do not know if that is legal or not, I won't say that! I'm retired, so I might be able to beat your one month off -- but then I'm also a bit older, so I need more time to cover the ground.

This is a good time to hit the area. But be aware that when these low elevation snow storms hit the area, a lot of trees get knocked down over the dirt roads and can block access (as if the mud was not enough at times).

For you guys that have not been able to zero in on the pig routes, when the wild rye grass gets growin' up to 8-10 inches in that area, if you get up there at first light you can easily see where they have traveled and bent the high grass in the direction of travel. Of course that inevitably leads into the brush tunnels, but at least then you know the routes. This helps a lot when they have not rototilled/rooted the open area, but simply traveled through it. Put in the time and you learn the routes -- unfortunatley, it's still better to be stupidly lucky than to be route-intelligent to bag a pig there. I can certainly testify to that!

Wow, looks like we have a little competition going here. Hmmm....lets see, who's going to get a porker first at Pine Flat. Interesting concept guys. How about including me as well LOL. I'm going to try and hit the place sometime next week or so. I'm also going to set up a camera up there.....so if you see one on your next trip up, don't take the camera LOL.

I'm heading up to pine flat this weekend also. I've managed to catch sight of them while I was chasing a 4 point buck during halloween. I don't know what to say but let the best man win :). I'll be up there with my black 2008 Subaru WRX STi.
