Plan to eradicate pigs in San Diego County

Bruce,
Over the past few years, there has been a group of agencies and land owners/managers that has met regarding pig damage to natural resources in San Diego County. Participants include the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, California Department of Fish and Game, and California State Parks, and others.

The proposal on which we are seeking feedback is similar to other activities that have been undertaken elsewhere in the U.S. to reduce the impacts of feral pigs. Last year, for example, the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma and the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana did similar environmental analyses.

I've been involved in the issue on Cleveland National Forest lands--I'll track someone down who may be better able to discuss the larger group if you'd like.

Where is all this damage that they are doing? Everyone on this forum (including myself) have been searching for the location of these pigs so that we can have an opportunity to harvest one. Ive busted brush quite a bit and have yet to even see one, let alone area that is so badly damaged that we need to eradicate them. Am I missing something here?

The private land owners won't work with hunters, because of the trespassing in the area and a lot of them dont like hunting, most are afraid of guns, But almost all you talk to complain about trespassers. Even if the trespasser isnt a hunter we get the blame. I spoke to one landowner who estimated 50+ trespassers during deer hunting season. He had hunters walking across his front yard. So sometimes we are our own worst problem. Ive hunted San Diego for a long time, The State has to allow more access( better trails/roads) and mark the property lines better. I dont know how many times Ive come across old wire fences and have to really look close at my map to decide if I can cross it.

CNF has a LOT of private property inside its boundries. I'm torn both ways, if you own property inside the NF, you better CLEARLY mark your fence line, otherwise you gotta expect trespassers. The maps aren't great and there's tons of fences out there. Unless its marked, how we gonna know?

When does the cattle eradication program start ? I got me a whole herd located in CNF. What would be the best caliber for a steer rifle ? Cattle are non-native invasive species , right ? I'm so confused ....

right on .we dont need a tag then.why should i pay money to shoot a stinkin hog when they are going to pay someone else to shoot them.i wonder if the judge would by that?
