I enjoy getting out and just walking around so that part of hunting for sheds I understand but is there some other attraction to it......do you sell them to those that use for furniture, lamps, etc.....or maybe that is your use for them? Obviously it has an attraction/purpose to have so many involved I just am trying to understand what that is that has so many looking for sheds.

I've been asked that question quite a bit and it is a tough one to answer. I sure had to think about it a bit.

Every srping I go out day after day and walk miles upon miles in search of antlers. Yes, I do sell some, but that's definitly not the reason I do it. For myself, once I thought about it a bit, I do it for the challenge of searching and the reward of finding!

It's hard to decribe the feeling I get when catch a glimpse of a tine hiding among the trees and scrub. It's like "Yes! Right on!" I found what I came out to find.

It's mother nature's art, that is grown by a facanating animal then just discarded, only to grow another set to do the exact same thing. Every antler is uniuqe in it's own way.

In every antler, big or small, old or fresh, I admire god's craftsmanship. Everytime I find one and hold it in my hands I think to myself, wow, this was on a deers head for almost a year and now it's mine. I wonder of the places the buck carried it and if it could talk what it could tell me.

There's my passion of shed hunting.....in a nutshell!

Great question!

Take care!

It's the catch and release of deer hunting.lol
Serious,it's an extension of my love and passion for the whitetail deer.Another excuse to be close to and to learn more about the animals I love so much.
I walk miles and miles to find just one antler and do nothing what so ever with the sheds I find.
Well, not in the sense that I sell or make things with them.I consider my sheds as much a trophy as the deer I harvest.

Thanks for the answers......I can understand the satisfaction you feel and think I might enjoy it for those same reasons......fact is if it was all about some how making some money that would not interest me in the least. This spring I may give it a go.....take my dogs out for some great exercise and see if we can find a shed or two. Actually, we did find one this season while hunting upland birds.....however, it was a cow skull with horns.....not quite the same but it did make me ponder what ill-fate the cow suffered.

Again.....thanks for the great answer.....and happy hunting.

those explanations pretty much sum it up. for me shed hunting is the beginning of the new hunting season. you can still see last years sign and when you find a fresh shed thats another buck that has made it through and possibly one that you might run into next hunting season. that happened to one of our guys last season. we had a nice shed from the year before and ended up harvesting that same buck and he was quite a bit bigger. it is also a good hunting tool, as i believe bucks drop there antlers around were they spend most of there time. other than that its pretty much unexplainable except its a feeling and another excuse to be out in the great outdoors and observing and watching nature at its best. up here after a long winter there is nothing like getting out there in that fresh spring air. the sheds are a bonus.
