Thanks, SDHNTR. Appreciate it.

DKSCOTT........like many others here, the open invite was intriguing. I inquired about what it was all about, got an invite to go, but never went hunting or planned a date to go hunting with this guy. Frankly, I was too busy getting ready for my Colorado muzzleloader hunt a couple weeks ago, and now am gettin ready for a Utah deer hunt. I've kinda got my own honey hole for hogs, so I also didn't want to stand in the way of others who don't.

So nope, I'm glad to say that you're way off on your recall there (there's that recall word again..........)

Man,

This thread is getting more action than Boomsplat's original "Free Hunting Trip" offer!

The guy tried to beat the system and he got caught. Lesson learned: Don't try that stuff with Jesse.

A couple of JHO members got sweet hunts out of it.

Nobody got hurt.

Hello Dirk,

1st, congrats on your hog. Please repost your pic and story and just leave out the name and phone number. I wish this would have turned out better but it didn't.

Well,

I think I need to chime in here two.

I also got to go on a free hunt with Boomsplat, and was VERY excited to get my first hog, a sow of approximately 150lbs.

It was not until well after my hunt that I found there was any motivate for future guiding. Its only by luck that I didn't post a trip report, because I was out of state immediately after the hunt.

Once I heard of the guiding, I decided not to post because I thought it might be seen as advertising and basically just didn't know how to react.

I can say for certain that at the time of my hunt, which was after Killzone's posting of his first two hunts, Killzone and I had NO knowledge there was future guiding/advertising involved , and I think Dirk J falls into the same category.

We all were thinking "to good to be true" and now we know why. Too bad this came down the way it did, because three JHO folks got to take their first pigs and now there is this cloud over the whole thing.

Anyway Speck summed it up well:

"The guy tried to beat the system and he got caught. Lesson learned: Don't try that stuff with Jesse.

Hey BoarTracks,
Now don't get me wrong here, I am NOT defending him, but, you can be a licensed guide in the state of California and not be on that list. If you dont get your application in before April 1st, you will not be listed on the F & G website. Also, when I first started guiding, it was OPTIONAL to be included on the list. Believe it or not, there are actually some guides out there that dont want people to know.

Yes that is true but I called the Sacramento Lic branch and the girl told me there was no guides with the names I gave her.

OK, as a guide who has taken people for free, I gotta chime in. Tusker is right, it's optional to have your service listed with DFG. I began guiding on a limited basis to raise funds for a 4H archery group( Community leaders Tony and Lenore Ryan 707-829-5620) My license # 3322. I also prefer to take only my truck to the property out of respect for the landowner. I've asked BDB and Speck not to disclose the location because millions of people can read this. Recently, a caretaker has given me so much grief, I've ceased all operations out of fear for embarrassing myself and would be clients. The bottom line is no license, no bond, and no permission are easy to check. Just like poachers do to the hunting community, so shady guides do to the guiding industry. BOOMSPLAT, why haven't you defended yourself?

I am no way defending Boomsplats actions in this matter at all. I just wanted to share my story with everybody. But I will say this, the property that I hunted on is legitimate. Boomslpat's freinds family owns it and I met some of them while I was there, so I know it is true. In regards to Boomsplat, I dont know how to say this so I will just say it. He is young and does not have a lot of experince in life not hunting, he is a super nice guy and so is his friend Tom. I think he did not have any intention to screwing anybody. They both just wanted to start a guide service, and we all know the best advertising is by the word of mouth. As in you get a coupleguys hunting on a free trip and some hogs they start talking next thing you know few more and so on. So just like Specks said I think everbody learnded their lesson on this matter and we should all forgive and forget. By the way my hog meat taste pretty dam good

Thanks everybody

Yep, probably so. Ain't you guys so nice to be so forgiving? We've all made mistakes, blah, blah. Frankly, sometimes you guys are WAY too nice. If I ever sink to try any bait and switch tactics in my lifetime, I just hope you guys are around to help me out. Yeah, I was young once too, but I knew between right and wrong. I'm no angel, either, but I never pulled anything like this at any age.

This is why I have trouble being forgiving when people do the exact opposite as they say. Reminds me of those timeshare guys "who aren't gunna pressure you at any time". Right.

This, my hopefully last post on this sore subject is NOT to re-stir the pot, just to add some clarity and closure to this stinker; I'm pretty clear recalling that this fella was asking for new friends to hunt with him because hunting alone wasn't so fun and he was looking for a partner or two. That was ALL there was to his initial invites. Friends, hunting partners, budds. NOT A SINGLE WORD about guiding or money came into play at any time as he was sucking in this huge amount of interest. And he also said he wanted to take guys to get their first pig. And he did that and that was a cool thing to do. So he's 1 for two at my count. But what was really happening? My guess, basic marketing 101 with a twist...............Where things got messed up was when a little greed and a little money got involved, I think that's all there is to it.

And if was pre-meditated (as not said but as I think inferred by someone here definitely in the know) to be a guide and THEN post up that he was lookin for a "friend", that's an entirely different matter completely, isn't it?

I have stayed out of this one but thought I would put in a bit now.

This is also not meant to continue this thread or support either side. There have been discussions about whether or not he is licensed as a guide. Many obviously don't think so and have posted about that. I called DFG today and verified his name and guide number. He was issued his licence on July 29th 2003.

Sorry, I just went by the name's I was given.I have no problem with guides giving some free hunts to get going. But I think he should have said outright what his plan was. Like, I will give a few free hunts out to get my name known and to build my service, and maybe take some of the guide money and get a banner ad. what $50.00 or so. I hope that he gets it together, I do not like to see people fail, and for his price he could and still run a good operation.
Thats my

Either way, he should be a man and pay Jessie for the free advertising that would be the right thing do. Especially sense he’s back on his feet, fess up and atone to the level. I agree that it really look wrong that he’s not defending himself or trying to make things right.
