Remember my epic story of spring fever and the craziness it causes? In my case, it caused that near suicidal plunge down a poison oak choked cliff that I wrote about back in April.

You know the one, it caused that hideous case of poison oak. It's the one myisfriend410 chortles himself to sleep at night about. As he drifts into dreamland, he says " I warned him. I did. I really did!" and then succumbs to sleep with an evil grin.

Because I caught so much crap about the "poison oak incident" I decided to send off my skull to get beetled. Below are the before and after photos.

The hog looks meaner than I remember.

I think the fine folks at Western Skull did a pretty fair job.

Western skulls http://www.westernskulls.com/, out of Peoria, AZ (phoenix). Frankly, they were the only folks that I could find that were still doing the beetle thing. The charged $115 and I gave them a COMPLETE frozen head. My partner lives in Phoenix and he carried it back in a cooler, frozen solid.

If I bag a bull in AZ this year, I may get them to do a euro for me. I was never good skinning around the head for taxidermy and DFG has some rules about CWD and bring back unprocessed heads from out of state.

I actually did a dear skull last year with the beetles in my garage. It came out so/so. I think it could of been better. I think I took it out to soon. My wife was freaked out because she didn't like the fact about those "MAN EATING BEETLES" in the garage. I eventually disposed of the beetles also. Kinda messy.

They sure did a great job on it for you. Great to have something to bring your mind to the poison oak whenever you see it :)

I've considered doing a beetle project with my son, maybe in conjunction with my taxidermist friend. But I'm a little afraid of escapees eating all of our taxidermy. And I have more than enough live critters to deal with without adding bugs to the mix. But looking at projects like this make me want to keep it on my "someday" list.

And I thought you meant “YOUR SKULL” as penitence for being so foolish as going down Poison Ivy Cliff. Now that would be different. Here is a before and after for you to consider. Gives new meaning to the old expression, 'go boil your head’.

You gonna get that hog head a clown mask of it's own?

Very nice trophy, to go with the great story.

Epic adventures make for a life-time of hunting memories.

Very nice, Dan! I may give the same people a try as I have a pig head in the deep freeze to do. That 262 pounder Steve and I got back in February. It's skinned and bagged so all I have to do is ship it.

You should get a plaque made shaped like a poison oak leaf cluster.......

Get it to them in the summer and winter months. Apparently the guy is an Alaskan bear guide in the spring. He charged me $115 w/shipping, took about 4 months. Probably would' ve been shorter but he was guiding.

All in all, not bad. Better than I could have done.

Talk to chuck, maybe he'd drop it off on his way home from deer camp. It's about 10 miles out of his way. You still have the tag with the skull? They asked for that.

Thinking Sept 28ish for chuck. I may be up at the same time or maybe a a day or two later. We're in negotiations right now, waiting for Jims input.

It looks like I'll be around. We talked about Colorado, but the leave times aren't working out. I'll probably fly out in October for mule deer in Wyoming.
