Oy, that's cold..... wow!

I will make sure I do that. I'd like to meet some more JHO'ers. I have a friend that lives just up the road from you also, so I could probably stay there to. But, still a month away. See how things pan out. But I am going to try to make this one. I wnated to go the New Years hunt, but a wedding in San Diego put a kink in that plan lol.

billrob firearms menu looks like this: bring all you toys if you can... you might want to play with all of them. There are special areas for archery only, special area for primitive etc., 22's for rabbit & tree squirrel Jesse's has got all the info on the website great maps & great information (Jesse personally has a wealth of knowledge on FHL), and you can check it out at fhl hunting fishing
you'll be fine on your application for FHL- they're only 10 days out.
Shot- we had a great time at the last one- you should come! 130,000 acres of the most awesome hunting ground on the planet-plus all of us- whats not to like?[/b]

Was wondering if there is a chance of picking off a coyote (within 500 yards), if so will they allow a 220 swift for that or do you still have to use a .243? Also, what area would be good for coyote?
Thanks, evlu

Hi evlu-
I've got a call into the boss at Liggett on the 220 swift, but regulations read as follows:
4.2. Rifles of 22 rimfire-caliber are allowed only for hunting tree squirrel and rabbit.

Really good question, we'll see what Liggett says for the "king" of varmint guns. I'll post just as soon as I hear from him.

last weeks harvest on the yotes:
2 yotes

We'll keep our ears & eyes open where everybody's seeing the little rascals. E-mail me at dloftus@wildblue.net
and I'll post on here what I find out about your 220 swift (really nice caliber)
<

Do you play poker??? Let's gamble chiggars! Dice??? Wild 1??? ( sorry if I jump to conclusions that your name has anything to do with your nocturnal habits)
<

Counted 31 piggies today hawg hunters
<
<
<
. Out at 2 pm being piggies. Some really cool colors. Little ones, big ones, mostly meat size hogs 180-220 couple bigger boars, and of course momma sow in the lead. That was quite a sight. That with the 8 piggies I saw 2 days ago makes 39 piggies for this week.
But whose counting?

Fish and Game says 220 swift is a centerfire round - he didn't see any reason why it couldn't be used on coyotes at FHL. The way we read the codes in FHL that 22 rimfire can only be used for Tree Squirrels and Rabbit. So there ya go. I learned something new... I love it when that happens. Even the woman at the gameshack didn't know the answer.
Very good question.

Might want to talk to LEA there, however. Or a warden that works the base. It might be legal in your eyes, but they could have a different opinion on it. And LEA will pull you over and/or cite you for the smallest of things. Better be safe then sorry.

Hi guys Calijeephuntr and Evlu and every one else that might want to hunt with a 220 swift centerfire, here are the DFG nongame method of take & FHL Code sections:

Most of the LEA's are concerned with the fact that your weapons are empty (including magazines and cartridge carriers attached to your guns) But as we all know there's always the chance that perhaps you might run into one LEA that woke up on the wrong side of the code regs and the bed in the same morning. In that case Fish and Game Warden Foster and I have provided this for you guys to print out and carry with you. If you run into any issues with cranky LEA's, Warden William Lorz (FHL Warden) and Fish and Game Warden John Foster should be called in at this point. Both of these Wardens work Liggett and know the laws. This is not my opinion, it is the law. I have lots of opinions but we'll save those for the card games...

[attachment=37729:attachment]

That is 475 Title 14 Fish and Game CCR's - laws clearly state that the coyote is a nongame animal and clearly states method of take. The other code is Fort Hunter Liggett Section
4.2. Rifles of 22 rimfire-caliber are allowed only for hunting tree squirrel and rabbit. Write that FHL section code on the printout so you'll have it.

You can find all of this of course in your 2006 Hunting DFG Booklet, but maybe it's just easier to print this and throw it in your glove box or pack if you need to show it to a grumpy LEA that is not quite read his 475 Title 14 and FHL 4.2 Regs with his morning coffee. Hey, it happens. Remember that in order for a LEA to write a citation they have to state what sections you violated. There wouldn't be one.

Great info Bhrhunts. And i'm not saying that you couldn't. I just don't want to see anyone get cited cause we thought it was legal. Just want to make sure we cover our bases. :)

I think this is great, I do something very similar with another kinda hard deal I do. I'm a licensed dealer with the DMV, so my dealer plates are those special plates. My daughter who is 23 and sales mgr for my dealership, got pulled over in Marin Del Rey by some not so knowledgeable cop down there. Well 4 hours latter (I'm not exaggerating) and four cop cars later - one had his trunk open looking for codes & regs so he could issue a violation, they couldn't figure it out, so they impounded her car, and made her walk home by LAX at night for 7 miles. She's a very cute blonde type and it's very rough in that part of the woods. Total rape target. Probably should have sued. Anyway, we fought it and won of course, but what I do now is I have that section of the vehicle code printed and stapled to my Permanent Registration Card. Cops never even think about harassing when you hand them that. Ya know, I think we all have enough to worry about just finding our prey and as to how you all are going to beat me in cards.

Will probably bring it. It's a single shot so I won't worry about carrying it loaded in the car. Am looking forward to meeting some of the JHO gang.
Better fill out my paperwork and get it sent in.

I would say that the chances of a fine turkey /pig/ card event are looking about 100% for opening day here March 31st considering that I have about a 100 turkeys 100 yards away from my 25 gal. minute spring. It'll be archery here at Bryson and then at Liggett.
<

Hey guys, haven't been in here for awhile. I am looking forward to meeting some of the JHOers, so that leaves me with no choice but to count myself in. Trying to gather a few buddies to talk some smack with me along the way to FHL, but we'll see how that pans out. If nothing, I'm more than capable to roughing it out by myself.

As this post is being scribbled, I'm PATIENTLY waiting for my brother to wake up so we can go about our business of pig hunting planned for today and tomorrow. We'll be out at his friend's ranch at the border of Humbodlt & Mendocino county. My brother has been successful everytime he goes out there, so let's hope his winning streak continues. I'll post pics and tall tales when I get back.
