Well, it looks like the wife and I will be able to make it. She was hiking around with us at CR last year, and enjoyed it so much she wants to hunt the piggies herself! So, this will be her very first hunt.

Karin, thanks for the generous offer of a cabin, but my wife wants to camp, so we'll be going to the campground.

BTW, anyone know if there is usually enough space at the campground, or should we be getting there extra early that Friday?

You shouldn't have any problems with getting a spot at the campground in Febuary. Deer season is really the only time the place gets packed wiith campers.

What about the card games and all those hawgs running around- I counted 78 or something like that this week from the window of my pick-up...

So maybe we should have a prize for the biggest hawg???

Maybe with that and the stripper pole...

Hogfest- welcome to the party- hope you kicked-ass on your hunt..
Blastmaster- and everyone else that isn't staying here- come by for the BBQ and festivities I love putting faces behind the names. I'm really wanting to do some events that are focused on women's hunting so I'd love to talk to your wife and see what she would be interested in.
pwahuntin- did the firewood cops get you? We had the seminar here with both Fish @Game / FHL Biologist at the New Years JHO/FHL event. The only other thing that we've ran into that is that you can't shoot crows on FHL. Jesse's personal peeve, huh Jesse? Where is our leader anyway?

Hey Spec,

I know that it is kind of late, but is there room for some more. I think myself and my daughter might come up and see if we can get a piggy. I will probably be the only shooter and we can camp as well. Are you limited on space?

tholihani, hi this is Bryson Resort alot of the JHO'ers are staying here, some are camping at FHL. This is a public hunt - come one come all. We have room here at the resort for you and your daughter 30.00 per nite per person in our cabins. Or you can camp at the FHL campgrounds, I think there's the Hacienda (On the Base). No your not too late... have you hunted FHL before, and do you have your annual permit?

First of all I want to say hello to every one and thanks for all the info shared in this forum. I am new to big game hunting and want to join the FHL grupe on Pres. weekend. I don't have a permit yet for FHL and will mail in an application tomorrow morning but am I too late? I understand there is a 10 day waiting period and I think there is enough time but.....

I was also looking for some recommendations. I will not be able to get there until Saturday morning and was wondering if there is someone at the gate on Sat. so that I can check in (and how early I can get there)? I would also like to camp Sat. night at FHL so if anyone can share some info as to were I can make a reservation (if needed)? Finally, what zones is everyone hunting? I don't want to crowd anyone while in the field but would like to meet some of you from Jesses after the hunt.

Again thanks for all the helpful info you all share.

ksberry209-
when you show up on saturday am, go though the front gate and go the the game shack.

you can check in there. as far as camping goes, you can camp right there by the game shack.
not reservations needed.

the last question on areas, we wil not know what areas are open till the thursday before the
weekend. that will determine what areas you want to coordinate with people on.

each area is about 12k acres and allow about 30 to 40 people in each area.

hope this helps.

Thank you hntboar - very nice. I love this thread, so warm and fuzzy. Nice.

ksberry- you should be fine on your permit process. You've got plenty of time. You'll need a cashier's check too, 25.00 two day (works on a 3 day weekend) or 70.00 gets you in until June 30th, 2007. Expires with your CA hunting license.

Don't forget- you guys roughing it out at the campgrounds, we'll have a BBQ probably Sunday eve. (I think will be the best- I'll post it in this thread) so we can all meet and tell great big stories. We're right around the corner from TA's 29 & 25 at the south end of the fort , go to brysonresort.com and click directions link ( you'll find a printable map ) if you need any help with permits or anything don't hesitate to call 805-472-2922 we're here for everyone- not just the people staying here.

I need to get more info on how to get to FHL, where's the main gate?
I just couldn't find any directions on their website,
going north on the 101 fwy what exit do I get out?
Is there any sign on the fwy for FHL exit?
I'll be coming from LA/Ventura area, you guys from SoCal would take the 5 fwy or the 101?
Which fwy get you there sooner from LA?,

Go to Google maps or Mapquest... Type in your address / Fort Hunter Liggett Jolon, CA. Coming from Ventura I would think the 101 is the quickest - Let me know if you get stuck, you can e-mail me.
