Here's a few of my tips for rooting this time of year. The grass is real short and vulnerable right now (with short roots). On fresh rooting the grass will still be green vs. dead grass (or wilted) that is starting to die, takes a few days or so and depends on the weather (hot, cold etc). You can also see on freshly bent grass a "bruise" like a wet crease. The way it lays on a trail is, of course, the direction the pigs are headed. Rain will "soften" the ridges on a track or rooting. So will time. There is much more to this, most of it involves a lot of time in the field, and being a bit of a detective. You'll get it, just keep getting out there, don't step on the tracks!

This is probably a medium size piggie, track less than 8 hours old... It's pretty "crisp" around the edges, one this fresh would be worth tracking I would think...
