Congrats on the pig! There is public land in Osos? I have grown up here and not known about public land. Granted I have only been hunting the past few years and I usually go up to north county to hunt. I am heading out on Saturday to hopefully nail a turkey.

yes baywood is the store they owned. Your friend would tell you that they sold it and moved away, so they no longer live in Osos. They didn't live in AG. That is just were my buddy wet to school to play football.

Nice video about Hearst. I had seen that and many others over the years. Its always cool to watch them again. I love going to the ranch and used to fish out of the pier in San Simeon. I have never heard that people can hunt the ranch for any price. I know that anyone can pay to hunt the other land (Jack Ranch), but never knew of hunts at the main property.

How long have you been over there and were did you go to school? We may know a few of the same folks. My buddy and I finished school in 95. I went to Bishop Diego in Santa Barbara.

They don't allow public hunts on the main Hearst ranch. If you know a Hearst you can hunt the main ranch which is loaded with game. Though they say that the Jack Ranch is actually the bigger pig hunting area. TBH I just got off a hunt on there and it was amazing. The hunting was fun but the history and company was better.

were would I meet one and would I be able to talk about it if I did? Maybe that's why we don't hear much about guys hunting that prime land. kind of a hush hush thing I would guess.

thanks for the reply buddy.
Best of luck to you.

No. The only public land that I know of is off of south bay blvd and that is listed as an animal sanctuary. No public pig huntable land in Osos.

Good to know! I thought I was missing something. I found a lot of pig sign and turkey sign today, but I couldn't find them. I saw pigs and turkey two weeks ago when I scouted the same area, but not today :(

I still thing I am missing something. Maybe it is because Im just a new guy. As I have read this thread, I thought it was a public land hog. Than thought it was from the public land around Osos that only a real local would know about. Than I read that there is no public land pigs in Osos. How dose that work?? Not sure I understand this whole story. again sorry maybe its just me.

lol....Ah, just forget about it. ( New Yorker accent.) :) The only important thing to take away from here is that I legally harvested a wonderful tasting game animal. :) happy hunting.

Just generally speaking, Los Osos hunting on local or state property around here is a major no no. 6 different law enforcement agencies patrol our bird/animal sanctuary.

There is a very small public area to hunt waterfowl but unless you are a local.....(a smart local rather) I would not recommend doing that. FWIW
