I'll have to say the walk from the parking off Los Gatos Road is about a mile if the walk was straigth flat across the canyon. But because you have to go down the canyon, through little gulleys, and up to the open ridges on the other side of the canyon. It takes me two and half hours just to hike one way.

Are you still going this weekend? I might be in the area too. I'm calling the BLM in Hollister today to find out if the gate at Sawmill creek is open. If it is you can drive all the way to Condon peak area.

Rocketman

Just got off the phone with the BLM, gate is open.

im lucky enough to live in coalinga so condon peak, laguna mountain, currie mountain, etc. are all within about 30 miins from the house. we came in off of the private below condon. it used to be a wu ranch. my buddie had been watching them feed in the field then go back up the canyons to bed up. i hunt mostly private ground around coalinga and parkfield. only hunt public aboput 20% of the time
My friend just joined WU and told me about a ranch on Los Gatos Canyon Road or Los Gatos Creek Road, about 20 mi. west of Coalinga, is that about where Condon is? Are you familiar with the location he's talking about? Thanks;

As of right now, i'm still planning on going this weekend. If your in the area, look for a brown 4 runner with the JHP sticker on the back window. I'll be heading out on Friday and will try to get a hunt in that evening and then saturday morning. Where is this gate that suppose to be open, I think you said it was stillwater. If you can drive into Condon peak, that would save a lot of walking I would guess.

As far as the WU property that was mentioned, Los gatos creek is the property name and yes, they did loose the property but got it back this year. Part of the ranch buts up to the BLM part of Condon peak.

Hope to see you there.

Mel.

I will probably be camped at Clear Creek unless someone can suggest somewhere else that's closer to condon.

Man, was I way off on the name of the creek were the gate is. I see now that it's Sawmill, where would this be coming from Coalinga and do you know if you can camp up there. I will probably roll in about 7:00pm or so. Stop by and have a cold one if your thirsty.

Sawmill creek is NW of Condon peak, kinda in the middle of Clear creek. It's the way to get to the Condon peak area of clear creek if you come in from the New Idria side. If you are from Stockton it's easy to come down I5 and come in thru New Idria.

Click on this link, it's a map of condon peak

http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.asp...&y=313&z=10&w=2

condon peak is in the upper right. Look north and find San Benito Mtn. and Santa Rita peak. the road (trail) that heads SW between them is Sawmill creek and will take you to a paved road headed towards Condon peak where you turn off on the dirt again. Last time I was there the trail was semi-rough but doable in my stock toyota 4x4. Don't know for sure if I'll be there but look for a beige truck with grey camper shell.

Yeah, I see it. Since i'll be staying in Coalinga, i'll probably go in from the Los Gatos creek road side. I'll see how far it is from the turn off of I-5 to New Idra from Coalinga on my way down, if it's not too far maybe I'll back track and head in that way. Maybe I'll see ya there.

thanks for all the info.

Well, nothing to speak of at Condon peak. Got there late friday. Headed out at 4:30am Saturday morning. Didn't see much fresh sign, just turned over cow patties. Maybe next time.
