hi, i am new to pig hunting and i was just wonder if someone could lead me in the right way to a good public land hunt. i don't want any secrets spots or anything.
Thanks
Do a search of this site and you will find plenty of info on this topic.
Just don't get your hopes up, because in California there is loads of public land, but only a little of it is good habitat supporting wild pigs. And it will be crawling with other hunters... If you want any guarantee of success at all, then save your cash and book with a guide. Probably 90% or more of the pigs are on private land and the few on public are just passing through. Good luck....
Welcome to the world of public land hunting frustration! No actually hunting on public land isn't necessarily frustrating (not too productive, but any hunt is a good hunt). However, hunting FOR good public land with hogs is a true exercise in aggravation, though.
Strongest recommendation? Get out and hit the Los Padres NF and cover some ground. Talk to some locals (if they'll talk), and see what you can find. It's a big forest, and I'd be willing to bet there are some honeyholes for the diligent hunter.
Camp Roberts and Fort Hunter Liggett can be good too. Good hunting!
anyone ever hunt this place? i did reciently and saw lots of sign, but problem is a one mr kesterson patrolls the area and records every vehicle entering the trail head. he calls the fish and game almost daily to check hunters. although i know for a fact he has posted no tresspassing signs on blm land he denies it. mr kesterson owns land adjacent to blm land and sell pig hunts. he knows the pigs bed on the public lands cover and harasses every hunter trying to hunt the area. anyone else encountered this !@#$
