I want to bag a DIY hog. Where to go for my best chances? Preferably close to SoCal. I know many of you probably have your secret spots, but GENERALLY, any suggestions?

I believe you're in SD (?) - I've killed more than a few on public land in SD county. Might want to try close to home first.

Thanks Wild1... SD is so dry this time of year... It's hard to think like a pig out there!

quickest way to find them is to look for "no hunting" signs.

Deer will travel 2 miles daily for water, pigs will travel 3x that.

I was wondering about that. In SD, there are so few water sources this time of the year, it is good to know how far they will go.

I have been scouting on some hillsides and have seen (what appears to be) rooting. It was about 1 mile and well above (800-1000ft) the closest water source. I dismissed it as being improbable that the piggies would make it up there. What do you guys think?

Thanks for your replies!

Chamise and manzanita are two of their favorite bedding shrubs. They have low quality food everywhere but will travel to higher quality food. So those factors are more available anywhere with a population. Water is the key since they require more per day than deer.

Go on Calguns.net. There a guys by the name of Bigboarstopper. He does guided hunts in the Paso Robles area but they are on private land. Pretty decently priced too.

I hunted a ranch near paso robles last year. The pigs traveled 5 miles daily to get to barley fields.

Could this be? I tried to look it up, but I was not sure. Pig or what?

The print is about 3in, there were a set of smaller ones next to it, and the sand made it VERY hard to get a single accurate print.
