Not a big hog but I am pretty happy. BigBubbaDaddy and I decided to check out a piece of national forest land for hogs as I had heard rumors of hogs in one area close to where I have deer hunted. We showed up Friday evening and did a short hike in a trail and got back about a mile. The idea was just to get the lay of the land for the morning hunt so we knew where to go in the dark on Saturday. We reached the area we planned to hunt and sat down with a vantage point to talk about our options. After about 10 mins, I stood up and went to walk and saw hogs coming up the hill. I drop and say "pigs". There are about 8-10 coming up the hill. A good size one and mine were working up to close to 40 yards so we lined up and did the 3-2-1-shoot deal each lined up on one pig. I fired before Bigbubbadaddy and I think that threw him off and maybe pulled the shot over the shoulder. The hogs all bailed and we send a few rounds at the large hog as she was HAULING A$$ across the hill but we never toucher her on the run. We searched the shot spot and the trail she fled on. No blood. We followed the trail she was heading out on for about 400 yards (we could see her going for quite a ways) but no blood. We definitely scared the hell out of her though.
Most of the hogs were pretty small, 30 and 20 pounds but there was one other one the size of mine or a little smaller and the large one that got away. We hunted the spot again on Saturday but no hogs. Too much human scent and noise I guess. We had a great time and managed a hog so we were happy.
The Barnes TSX left a nasty exit hole but very little meat damage. The shot was top of the heart and both lungs, she went about 40 yards and left some serious blood on the hill side (in the picture in the upper left).
