I can understand the frustrations and challenges of getting old. I'm 35 but am well overweight. I wasn't overweight my whole life but recently packed on a lot of pounds due to events in my life. However, when I have the chance to get out and hunt/scout I swear I have the energy of a kid who has ADHD. Well, until it's time to make that long trek back. I've learned to pace myself and plan ahead. I've come to terms that even if I'm only 35, I'm out of shape. So I plan a little extra time for a 5 minute rest break. I take that time to catch my breath, stretch and/or just sit back and enjoy the scenery. I haven't had the opportunity to get my eyes on a pig (or turkey, etc...) but I always plan for the time I get lucky. A long, strenuous and time consuming hike back but at my own pace. The more challenging it is, the greater the reward. At least for me. Personally, I just enjoy being out and getting some well needed exercise. Too bad my wife doesn't allow me to hike that far in anywhere given I typically go alone.

Good luck (if you decide to go back)! Hopefully we see bacon in your next photos!

Times change. Back when I got married the bride promised to love, honor, and OBEY. The groom didn't mention anything about obeying.

Where is this place? Let us all know so we can go out there for a BBQ only. With a 10 mile hike just to maybe see a pig is not worth it. BBQ and beers meet sounds a lot better to me. LOL

You have way more good pig country in your backyard, than I do way down here. But I could go for some good BBQ. Maybe at the end of the month.

This kinda reminds me of all that terrain you see as you drive EastBound making your way to Yosemite.

I hear ya, Bubblehide.
Note: Moleskin is like gold on those kind of hunts. :)

They also make a Blister-specific type of Gel-Like Band-Aid now. It's adhesive holds well in shower too. I'll bet if you pre-adhered them to your problematic spots it could possibly buy you some more boot-time.

BTW.. one time... walking back from Venice Beach down Venice Blvd to Beethoven (my GrandPa lived on Beethoven and I stayed with him for a bit as a young man) this one time I had sand on my feet and at first didn't wanna put on my shoes until the sand dried and fell off... so I kept walking... and somehow it changed and turned into a goal of determination... I decided I was gonna walk the whole way back barefoot. I did it, sure enough. And you learn some things. I developed an appreciation for those real S.O.L. homeless nutjobs you sometimes see that don't even sport shoes. There was blood well before I got back. I can't explain it without lotsa words... but it's something I think everyone should have to do at least once in their life. I'll tell ya... you become much more concerned for your dog when walking them after that. You can much better tell when THEIR feet are barkin' at them.

The meet & the slip
as there were pig tracks in his boot prints

Hehe... I laughed my ass off at the hk reference!

OMG... I don't think I could have left if I found a track within my previously left boot-print! Question: What if you all decided to go back near that intersection of tracks... and decided to stop and eat lunch? Are there certain food items you perhaps could elect to bring and eat whose aroma might rouse the hungry belly of the piggies? I mean... when saliva wets up many foods their scent really really carries. I mean... we can't bait... but there's nothing that restricts what we might choose to snack on, right? Or would snacking on something whose smell they like be a bad thing as it might perhaps alert them to the presence of something not normal to the area? I figure some Peanut Butter might call out to 'em no? What with it's yummy winter-survival fats and delicious aromatic carbs.

Can't argue with that! But over 42 years ago mine promised to love, honor, and obey; while I promised to love, honor, and cherish. I cherish her more today than I did 42 years ago.

That is exactly what I bought last week. I put them on Friday night and wore them through my Saturday 20 mile stroll through the woods, and finall took them off Tuesday. I now keep some in my pack.

I know what you mean. But on the other hand, we were both so damn tired, sore, worn out, achy... that all we wanted was out of there. I tell ya, 8 to 10 miles is long long walk at the end of a already long tiring day.

You should try leukotape. Put it on before you start or as soon as start to feel a hot spot and it stops you from getting blisters. It stays put for at least a week.

Have to admit...this was an awesome write up...I'm 34 and I don't think I could do a 20 mile round trip hunt...but like most say...if it was a group of 3-4 folks it'll be fine...I usually do my hunting alone so...
