I'm not sure where to post this so I figured what the heck. I'm curious if anyone in the Bay Area has any info on a place where I could take my son and daughter out to shoot 22's and big game rifles in field conditions and get familiar with the guns? I'm hoping to find a spot within an hour or so of the San Jose area or the Bay Area in general? Any info thnat could be passed on is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Clear Creek is about an 1.5 hours to the south. When we go there to ride our dirtbikes, we bring the guns too. You can find a lot of good places to shoot there.

If you are near the South Bay there are a couple places to go. One is Sunnyvale Rod & Gun club near Stevens Creek Resevour in Cupertino and the other is Los Altos Rod & Gun Club near Skyline Blvd. and
Hwy 9. I realy like LA Rod & Gun, they have a pistol range, a rifle range, a skeet range and manual skeet machines where you can teach the kids how to wingshoot. They have targets and clay birds for sale. All yopu have to bring is your gun and ammo.

There's a range out in Chabot that I hear is pretty good to shoot at. Haven't been myself, but the club website looks good.

There is actually somewhere to legally shoot a gun in the bay area? I learn something new every day...

Chabot is shotgun, pistol and rifle. The pistol and rifle will all be from benches and not what I call "field shooting" but you can stand or sit on the ground or lay prone I guess. For the rifle, there is 25,50,70,100 yard benches with some separate handgun lanes beside the rifle range though I usually shoot my .44 at the 25 or 50 yard bench. There is even a separate 200 yard range, but it's only open 1 day a week.

I hear there is a place down south (san jose area) that has a "tin can" type range but I don't know the details. Nothing within 1.5 hours that I can think of to just hit the woods and do some shooting.

Easymoney,

We may live in an area inidated with liberal do-gooders but we do have a few outposts of sanity.

Easy - try to not be so negative all the time.

It gets REALLY old.

I second the nomination for Los Altos Rod and Gun Club off of Skyline Blvd. (Hwy 35). Really nice people run the place, and my son and I love blasting cans and water botles on the tin can ranges.

I've been a member of Los Altos Rod and Gun Club since 1997. If you look at the back of the sign that hangs over the driveway, it says "This is the Place".
The tin can ranges are are my favorite, with the manual trap as a close second.
If you have a troop of Scouts, and you arrange it in advance, I think they can shoot for free.

Daddy63, Clear creek has some good places to shoot. It took several tries to line up my .45 to shoot hubcaps across the canyon.
Some of the folks lurking about down that way are a bit spooky looking to me. Nothing bad ever happened but I felt very reassured being armed. It's a great place to watch some wild motorbike riding.

Good luck in your search,

Jean

This website has a great list, along with descriptions, of places to shoot in the Bay area. http://www.dragunov.net/bay_area_ranges.htm. It does ask if you want to install a Korean language pack when visiting; however, if you don't install the pack the site loads fine. The site also has links to the individual Bay Area gun ranges.

Rancho,
I was just shocked...[/b]

No, you're just poisoned.

Off hand around me I have Markley's in Watsonville (Santa Cruz County), Scotts Valley (Santa Cruz), Coyote Valley Clays, a county range in south San Jose, one in Los Gatos, Los Altos R&GC, and Reed's in San Jose..Then there's one in the east bay where Speckmisser likes to shoot.

Or I can walk to my hillbilly friend's place up the road and shoot all day (Santa Cruz again!).

You really do need to turn off the TV and get out more....You might sound like you're having some fun.

Are you attacking me again loco?
Your personal attacks are very well documented and you have been warned more than once to stop.
I see old habits can't be broken...
