The AM cant get here soon enough! Our crew is headin outta here first thing in the morning. Our group consists of Wifey, myself, my 76 yr. old lifer Marine neighbor, 2 other bros from here in the desert, a buddy from the eastern Seirra, a buddy from Simi and 2 other pals from Merced. Cant wait. The weather should be stellar! If we could land somewhere between what One Tracks crew did a few weeks ago and what Spec did last week I'd be good with that. My weekend mission is to get the 76 yr. old neighbors bowhunting cherry popped, and wifey another stud hog. Wish us luck and I hope to flop some cool pics and stories up here on Monday!

Git 'em, Dave!

We left a whole bunch of them out there for ya. But if you go hiking up Pumpjack Canyon, be careful where you step.

Start in Slam Dunk Canyon for your first kill. Then, move on to No Brainer Mountain for at least two quick hogs. There are hogs running all over Carbon Canyon where you can pick up an easy two or three hogs. Check out Easy Money Meadow, and Piece 'o Cake Creek to finish out your limit.

Have fun!

Pretty tough hunt guys. Not much to say. There were a few chances and one hog hit and not recovered by a buddy of mine. A few of the other guys got close but no cigar. Much of Saturday was ZERO visibility with fog and in the high 30's most of the day and 40-50 mph winds. Add that and sharing the north end with 11-12 rifle hunters DRIVING thru every crack and crevice they could get into (Carbon Canyon looked like a freeway), another group of 8 bowhunters staying up in the nice cabin. No excuses though boys. There shoulda been some hogs down. I walked my 76 yr. old neighbor up CC this morning and not 300 yds. up the road I spot a nice 140-150 lb. boar feeding on the other side of the creek. I range him at 35 yds. (and I'm lickin my chops!) but my friend was a bit hesitant. I really felt like he wanted to be a touch closer. He tucked in behind me and we slow poked it up a few more yards. The wind was perfect and we were quiet as a church mouse, but away he went. We were fortunate to get Ron G. which was fantastic. Ron was busting his fanny trying to help everyone out. All but 1 of the guys bailed out at around noon, including wifey and I. We'll go get'em in a couple months hopefully!

Sorry about the fog - that stuff will get ya, we have it here and by the time it lifts the morning hunt is over. Sounds like you had a great time- you walked your 76 year old neighbor right up to a hog and that is a feat in itself- good job, I'll bet he was tickled.

A bad weekend hunting Tejon beats a great weekend anywhere else in my book.

Good stuff, good luck on your next trip over there.

You're absolutely right. Tejon is amazing. A few of us got to see a bunch of the ranch that we've never seen. Three of the group were first timers there. Everyone had a great time and got to see pigs. Add a couple cold beers in the evenings and Ron G's steaks and bisquits to top it off.........pretty hard to beat!

Deedy,

You would think that about most guys that are that age. Barney is a lifer Marine and in pretty darn good shape for his age. He's in better shape than some guys I've seen that are considerably younger. He did great on our walk. His bones were startin to talk to him a bit about half way into it, but he was right there with me for the whole deal this morning. I'm a tad bummed I couldnt help him get his first bowkill on this trip. I'll try to drag him up there with me again someday! And yes, he real pumped about the trip and his encounters. He actually got to launch an arrow yesterday while he was with Ron. A little short on the yardage guesstamation, but he was pretty excited about it. His wife called about an hour ago telling us that she cant shut him up. He's yacking non stop about the weekend.
