Myself and 8 buds are off to Tejon in the morning. Should be interesting with all the recent developments up there. Cant wait! On this trip we have 6 of my long time hunting brothers and two guys I got through this forum. One of the guys has never hunted....ever, but has been shooting a bow for quite a while. We will be graced with ElkRon and Darryl F. as our Tejon reps. I keep gettin the evil eye from wifey for having her stay home for this one. She's 7 mos. pregnant but still wants to go chase hogs with her bow. Geesh. She says it'll be okay if I can manage to bring home a cooler full of sausage. I cant wait!!!
Will hopefully check back in on Monday with some cool pics!

Later!

Just make sure you don't bring any firearms or ammunition, they are banned from the ranch until July 9, 2008.

Git 'em, Dave!

I have one freezer full to the top and another well on the way, so I think I'm done 'til deer season... but I still kinda would like one more go at Tejon this year.

Keep us posted!

One of the funnest pig hunts I've been on. An absolute blast with a super group of guys. 3 pigs in the cooler, 4 that were hit and not recovered (bummer, I know!). Pics and a little story later. We had a first time hunter in our group. When I say first time I mean NEVER HUNTED EVER BOW OR RIFLE! He was one of the lucky guys to take a pig. Quite an accomplishment. Congrats Kurt, Mark and John!!!

This is Kurt and his first animal ever taken. Kurt and Corey walked in on this boar and with a little coaching from Corey, Kurt put the smackdown on this guy at about 30 yds. Kudos to Corey for giving Kurt a hand on this one, and to Kurt for doing a great job on him! I think the pig went about 20-30 yds. and tipped over. Awesome!

Sitting around the patio last night while Ron was grillin chops. It was about 10 pm or later. These summer hunts up there are pretty long days. We were up at 3:30 in the mornings, back for a nice midday nap, then back out and back to camp between 9-10pm. Have some dinner and a few coldies and its 1am before ya know it, then back up at 3:30. Life is good!!!

What a weekend. Thanks Dave for inviting me. What a bunch of accomplished hunters I had the opportunity to hunt with this weekend. I learned so much just by listening, watching and asking questions. I want to thank a few other people also, Ron our guide, he put us on pigs everday, morning and evening. Corey for keeping me calm and guiding me through the stalk and kill. I know he was getting frustrated when that RXII wouldn't give him a reading, it has a hard time reading black objects for some reason. Troy for giving me the opportunity to shoot first and to everyone else for sharing in my excitement of my first kill.
Now for the hunt. Saturday evening we went back to an area where we saw pigs and a couple hunters got shots off the previous night. Right when we pulled up we saw a couple pigs feeding right next to the wash and moving toward the spring for water. Approaching downwind, Corey, Troy and I hugged the reeds and got to about 40 yards away from the pigs. We waited and the pigs were moving closer, some piglets, a sow and other pigs moved down into the wash probably 15 yards below us. My pig moved closer to about 30 yards away, facing us. He was one of two left feeding in the grass, all the other ones moved into the wash and reeds. My pig turned broadside and as I was getting ready to draw I heard Corey say wait, just then I remembered I needed a quartering away shot. Well it never happened and I drew, Corey said "take em" and I put the 30 yard pin on him and let it fly. The pig turned slightly toward me as the arrow entered the right lung but missed the left lung. As it turned away from us I could see the arrow hanging out of his body. He walked into the wash and I hear Troy say "he's down". Pig fell about 20 yards away from where I hit him. Trying to stay calm I was shaking just trying to notch another arrow as we approached the pig. Tossd a rock at it to confirm he was dead and I had a grin from ear to ear. Teaching "Anatomoy and Physiology" in high school helped prepare me to field dress the pig, except it's warm, bloody and 30X bigger than specimins we use in class. Here are some other pics.

That's a hugely succesful bowhunt! Congrats to the killers! Especially, the the new guy. Having the huevos to make a clean bow shot on your first-ever hunt is truly a great accomplishment. Needless to say, "You are now hooked on bowhunting as badly as your hog is dead."
