I've called and left several messages at the check in/out or game check station at FHL with no return calls so I'm asking for help. I was drawn for a cow elk hunt that starts this coming Saturday. From what I understand there is an orientation meeting before the hunt. When is this orientation? I plan on being up there Friday late afternoon. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the time they do it at the recreation boulding next to the HQ. Or go straight to the check station and they will point you on the right direction.
Goodluck on your hunt.

Now that is some funny stuff. I thought the same thing. I did find out that the orientation is Friday at 4:00pm at the recreation center. I'm not sure but I think they will tell us what zones they've been seeing the elk in and what they would like us to harvest.
Your response was still one of the funniest I've seen to date.:rotflmao:

They go over the base rules and weapons restrictions, road conditions, introduce the Game wardens staff and the DFG biologist on hand for the hunt. They talk about impact zones and unexploded ordance. The explain that its a management hunt and they want you to shot MATURE cows. Also brief the game shack procedures and downed animal procedures to include; the meat locker, skinning rack etc... oh and what zones are assigned to the elk hunters and where the elk are/where as of that day. They want you to be successful.

Having never hunted FHL, I found it very helpful

Just kidding of course, I'm just old fashion when it comes to hunting. I don't like to be instructed to where how when and what, I rather do my own home work even if I fail. I do understand that some hunters like this kind of short classroom, to me it's too artificial. I already did my hunter safety course 20 some years ago so I know the safety part the rest should be up to the hunter. but again that's me.
Anyway best luck LongCaribine!
