Damn Gunner, can't get enough action in CA? I have a good friend who lives in Texas who is trying to get back out here for the CR hunt. He is serious. He had to go back home Tuesday but is going to try to come back for the hunt. How's it looking for the CR hunt?

I think I remember hearing something not so good about this place. You'll have to search the archives.

Gunner5569,
Myself and 4 of my hunting buddies went to this ranch you are inquiring about. We went in October 2004. At THAT TIME there was ONLY ONE HUNTING PROPERTY that the hunt owners were utilizing and operating. BUT NOW, READING FROM THE CURRENT WEBSITE I understand there are NOW 3 hunting properties and I DO NOT KNOW IF ALL 3 HAVE A HIGH FENCE. It was a semi-guided 3 day, 2 night hunt. Night hunting is allowed in Texas for wild pigs and varmints. With the guide dropping us off at promising locations and then we were on our own. It was located about 40 miles east of San Antonio, Tx. The ranch had 300 acres(1 square kilometer) enclosed with a high fence and stocked with exotics and also with wild boar bought from trappers capturing the pigs from neighboring ranches. The high fenced enclosure also has a one way piggie entrance, enticed with bait so that wild pigs wandering around will come into the high fence but "once inside, cannot get out". The 300 acre high fenced is surrounded by an approximately 2,000 acre working ranch. During our hunt, this 2,000 acre ranch was huntable and permissible to us for wild boars, varmints, coyotes and bobcats because there was a gate, closed but unlocked that we had access to. A flowing creek bisects this 2,000 acre ranch and is jungled by creek bottom oak, pecan and mesquite trees. There were free ranging big, wild boars habitating in this jungled creek bottom outside the high fence enclosure. There were feeders on this creek bottom that we used to try to ambush the free ranging wild pigs. BUT DURING October when we hunted, the oaks and pecans were dropping and carpeting the floor with enormous amounts of acorns and pecans and thus the wild pigs were saturated with acorn/pecan food and will not come to the corn feeders AT ALL!!!!!!!! So we could not score on the feeders outside the high fence at the creek bottom. We arrived Friday afternoon and hunted Friday night at the creek outside and of course due to the acorns/pecans, we did not see any wild pigs come to the feeders. Saturday, we just hunted inside the high fence and I shot 2 pigs that were around 100 pounds each and the rest of the party scored 4 more wild pigs inside the high fence for a total of 6 pigs for 5 of us. We tipped the guide an extra $25 each pig for him to dress and skin the pigs on top of all the guide fees, lodging fee and the hunt fee. AT THAT time we had the option of refusing the ranch food service as we were cooking our own food which we brought with us. The pigs inside the high fence are real deal wild pigs. But there are also piglets born inside the high fence and we also saw the owner buy big wild boars from a trapper who delivered and unloaded inside the high fence the wild boars from his traps in his trailer. My 2cents is to inquire if the 3 current hunting properties ALL have a high fence and IF it is a high fence, to ASK if the surrounding area outside the high fence is also hunting areas accessible and permissible for you. Also to ask if all 3 hunting properties have a flowing creek and if all 3 are heavily jungled with pecan and oak trees. If they are, then Sep. to Dec. the ground will be carpeted with acorn/pecan food and the wild pigs will not come to the feeders for you to ambush. The hunt owner is Paul and he is a straightforward and nice to deal with fellow. We enjoyed our hunt at his place which at that time was ONLY ONE hunting property. The rest of my hunting party liked it so much that one year later in 2005 they went back and hunted at Paul's again. God Bless.
