I've decided to jump up a notch and use a Nikon D100 for a game camera. If I use a MB-D100 battery pack and hook a sensor into the remote plugin I think it would work, just need to design a case. I think the batteries will last for a week, but would get some great pictures.

Anyone tell me how fast the flash recharges for the second picture. Will have to program the sensor board to hold the shutter down for at least 5 seconds for a series of pictures, Should get 10 pics in 5 seconds but not sure at night.

Another question: with the remote, does that also turn the camera on or are you just able to take a picture by leaving the camera on all the time?

Don't want to spend the money if it's not going to work

Also, I have a N-70, will that lense fit the D100.

Thanks,

I think the camera will shut completely down when left on. The remote will take pics but not turn the camera on and off.

I do think your film slr lens will fit, is the n 70 AF?

My n-50 lenses work with my D50....

I just came back from the local newspaper after talking with a photographer. The D100 goes into a sleep mode quick and he claims it will stay there and not shut off. I think it will work. Also the flash will work ok.

If anyone has a D100, check the manual to see if the power shuts off at anytime after going into the sleep mode.

The D100 has a different power supply plug in for the remote I think than the D50.

Thanks wapiti

That is what my canon 20D does. I actually never turn it off. I just have to half press the shutter, and it resumes.. usually after several days. A few folks here have the D100... hopefully they can give some hands on info.

man, that is gonna be one souped up trail cam! keep us updated on the progress.

Thanks lan-lord, best news I've heard. He showed me a 20D and said they worked the same using the power pack for the remote.

The lenses will swap out one to the other.
The d-100 has a sleep mode that can be set in 30 second intervals.
I'm not sure but you will get approx. 5 or 6 pics a second but some will be out of focus due to the camera being in auto mode to focus will it not?
Which lens are you going to use?
Night time shooting will work pretty fast that is with a flash. Don't know about infared light.
I would like to see the finished product myself.

Also go to stevesweb site and check out all the specs.

copilot .. I did check steve's camera and everthing checks out great. I needed a new personal camera but wanted to be able to use it also for a game camera.

The lense I'll be using is from my N70, ( Nikon-AF NIKKOR 35-80mm ) My son gave it to me a year ago and I never used it, I had an Oly 740 at the time, so never took the time to learn all the functions.

Would be nice to get a lens that didn't stick out so far, but trying to cut the cost.

Thanks for all the help
