Just got back from my Spring Access opening trip (south side) from Thursday morning through Sat Morning... went up with kcravnit. Only a few other hunters were up there for the weekend, mostly quiet. Wx was decent although cold, and roads were pretty good, wet and slimy near the upper elevations but the polaris rangers made it up and down ok with only a few pucker moments!
Hogs were pretty brushed up, mornings were tough although we got into hogs pretty good.
I unfortunately lost a pig, shot a 150-lbish sow with the bow and all signs indicated a good shot. Had a great blood trail indicating lung and liver hit but after 600+ yards of tracking into darkness could not find her. Came back next morning and picked up the trail, and shortly after Kelly found fresh mountain lion tracks (big one!) trailing her. Possible sign of struggle and drag off into untrackable terrain. Looked all morning and day and could not find her. I am pretty certain my sow got eaten by mr. mountain lion.
Explore new terrain (desert side) on Friday night but came up short on pig sightings. Saturday morning got into some pigs but no decent opportunities.
A great trip with plenty of ups and downs.. the hogs are there for sure, and I am once again reminded how much more I have to learn about hog hunting and Tejon Ranch.
