rainy hog trip

spent the last two and a half days hunting laguna with a good friend. it was my first hog hunt, and first time out with the new savage 30-06. fun trip, but nearly got washed out by all the rain. the creek rose about 12" yesterday alone, and made it real difficult to get out of the canyon. saw lots of sign, and tracked what we both thought was a large boar with company for almost half the day today. turned out to be a 4x4 buck and two does. but awesome none the less. not sure if anyone's had any luck in this area recently, but we sure didn't. we saw the tracks, saw the recent rooting, but didn't see the hogs. thanks for the maps/info from those of you that helped me out and best of luck to anyone who heads up there any time soon.

Laguna is a tuff hunt, I always see sign but never see the actual Hog.....its being there at the right time..... was anybody else there???? I always see pigs on the other side of the river at clear creek on the way to Laguna coming from Coalinga side but with it closed all u can do is watch...

nobody there until this afternoon when three other guys showed up. my buddy and i were working our way down a draw and i don't think they even saw us. it was hammering down rain so pretty easy to see what tracks were really fresh. we were on some pigs on the far side of the creek, as well as some this morning right by the fire trail. probably not more than 200yds up the trail. the tracks just led into the brush though so no luck in either spot. beautiful area though, and a fun hunt. i'm sure we'll give the same area another go in a couple weeks. if it dries up a bit...two days of rain was enough.

good try, Timing is every thing, today when I was going out I met a guy leaving sead he saw pigs far away but 300 yards down the trail I came across one but couldn't get a shot before the pig saw me.

can you hunt the open parts of clear creek?

i think so. we didn't stray too far from where we KNEW was in bounds. i'm hoping to take another trip there this upcoming weekend. maybe friday. we'll see.

I called BLM this morning and they told me lower parts was open, but just the road side trail head, you got to go to BLM sight to see the map of open and closed parts

said you saw them at laguna? i was up there with my father and 2 friends 2 saturdays ago but it was bone dry. saw a few does running around and about a herd of 50 elk sitting by the lake on the way up

but with the new rain and all well probably try our luck again soon
