In your scenario of "a couple of days after" - what would YOU do? I know what I would do in your position. You either have enough sense to know what to do, or you probably shouldn't be involved with land/game management.

Well, in my "couple of days after" situation, I wouldn't have much proof that it was that particular group of hunters. It is a large area, and I wouldn't know for sure if it was them, or a group that snuck into the area days later. I could call them and confront them, but without much evidence, I doubt they would simply fess up. In that situation, I would probably report what happened to the DFG, but I wouldn't have concrete evidence. My only real definitive action would be to ban them from ever returning.

What would you do? You make it sound like I lack common sense. What is the common-sense answer that I'm over-looking?

If you read what I posted , everything i said was related to self guided, or a private club, I stated the difference if he HIRED a guide. If your hunting a self guided access hunt , or joining a private club , and you sign a contract with rules listed, why should he make under market value for a self guided hunt ? Or private club membership fees ? On a self guided hunt or club his experience only matters on the business and land management side, and enforcing the rules. Self guided isn't guiding you around , it's not gutting, skinning , and quartering out the hunters harvest. Your giving him money to access and hunt his land. Why should he make less for access hunts, or a private club because of his lack of experience ?

In life you get people who feed off of weak, ignorant (lack of knowledge) people. You know all the numbers I posted are the fair going rates for what I listed for access hunts, private year round access club members or hunting with a professional hired guide. I don't have a fist in this fight. Just giving real helpful, information. Whether he wants to listen and take that information is on him, because I don't care.

If I owned 1000 acres I'd be making money on its resources. Whether it was off downed trees, and selling firewood, or raising cattle, plant crops or managing the lands wildlife. I would look into grant money for habitat improvement from the State, Feds, NWTF, Quails Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited etc... I'd probably offer planted birdhunts, or have a dog training facility too. A 1000 plus acres gives someone the opportunity to make money. And there nothing wrong with opening a business of any kind with the intent to make money, that's what America is about. Why else would you operate a business, and deal with people you don't know ?

If you find people Trespasing on your posted land you have two options let them go with a warning or call the cops.

If you find poached animals on your property you cell DFG

If you have a policy of no alcohol , and the hunter signed an agreement , then boot his butt off your property with no refund.

Have your hunters sign a contract with all rules , and guidelines that states no refunds and that people that violate the can be asked to leave the property without s refund, and poaching will be reported. You set the rules you enforce the rules, if guys don't like them oh well, they don't have to hunt with you. No hunting license and no tags means no access, pay up front etc... If you want to be a hard ass be a hard ass, if you want to give more leeway and be more laid back, do that. As long as hunters follow the law, your rules are your rules. Your protecting your land and it's resources, your the only one that knows what you want as far as rules is you, do you have to talk to your ownership group and lay down the law as you see it. Again no one had to hunt with you, but if they do they follow the law and your rules, how you chose to enforce that is up to you.

I agreed with everything you said with the exception of the self guided prices and here is why. Realistically he has know idea how much game is on the property (remembering that he said the owners never visit, the property is not posted, and the ranch hands had been running an under the table hunting operation) You can charge whatever you want does not mean people will pay. For example a guy I know GUIDES turkey hunters for $500. I agree that the first step should be management but again he would need alot of help doing so. I suggested private club for this reason. But overall I do mostly agree with your pricing and opinion

No I'm not saying or implying you lack common sense, I don't know you so it would be wrong of me to say one way or the other. Maybe re-read my post. I said you are coming across like you lack sense, thus maybe why you are getting flack for your questions.
If I had half a doubt guests were not following rules I'd make sure they didn't come back to my property.
