range finders

I'm looking at buying a range finder for both archery & rifle hunting. I posted a couple of weeks ago in another forum asking about the Nikon Prostaff 550 & was given the advice to look for something with more distance & an inclometer. While looking on the Cabelas site the Cabelas CLR1200 caught my eye. No inclometer but the price is right. Does anyone have any experience with this or any others in the $250 price range. Thanks for your advice.

For $250 you can get a NEW Bushnell scout 1000 with ARC on ebay.

An inclometer is useful if you hunt terrain where very steep hills or canyons may yield a long shot that is way up or way down a steep incline. People tend to shoot too high on these shots because although the target is distant, the horizontal component of the shot is much shorter than the actual distance to the target. It's the horizontal component that causes bullet drop (gravity). Some of the more expensive and newer laser range finders give you the horizontal distance to the target and therefore allows for the correct amount of bullet drop correction. Once again I recommend that you don't skimp on a laser rangefinder. It's a device that you will use for years so get a good one.
