Looking to increase my flexibility at FHL, so I'm going to outfit my Mossberg 500 with a rifled barrel and scope for hunting pigs.

I just "won" a cantilever Mossberg barrel on eBay, and am mulling over the scope choices. I found the Nikon ProStaff Shotgun Hunter 2-7x32 for a decent price, or would the Nikon Slughunter 3-9x40 be a better choice for about $100 more?

I know next to nothing about shotgun scopes, so someone please wise me up. The other one that pops up a lot is the Leupold VX-1.

So, what say you folks with experience?

Leopold VX-1 ultimate slam with SABRe Reticle.

You can beat that price by looking around. Nice field of view, clear optics, it holds point-of-aim despite recoil. Easy finger adjustments on the turret.

I fought buying leopold for years, thinking they were over priced glass. After destroying 3 scopes on my shotgun, I took the advice of a long time shotgunner and ML hunter and swallowed my pride. Never regretted it. It's a quality product.

The glass is bright and clear. When I throw the shotgun up for a running shot, the parralax isn't there and I get a wide field of view. The SABR reticle makes it easy to take the longer shots, no guessing.
