I'm looking for binos for in-woods hunting, not open plains or bird watching. 7 or 8 power is plenty. My main requirements are lite weight and bright low lite optics. Who's used what? Any reommendations? Many thanks....

Check out Burris Signiture semi compact 8 x 32. They weigh 16 oz. 4mm exit pupil should give good low light performance.

Low light performance is usually where things start to get pricey. Fortunately, low magnification usually costs less than high magnification at the same quality-level. Look at the recommendations on A Better View Desired.com for a starting point. The site also has a series of good articles that help decipher whats important in terms of specifications.

Another good source for information is www.optics4birding.com
In addition to great information, they have a ratings system that allows you to set up your own parameters and do a comparison of the major brands. You might be surprised with the results, I was. Saved me close to $500 once I did some additional homework and actually tested the binoculars side by side at Scope City.
Good luck on your search!
