Very good reading these listings, I hope people will continue to note their experiences.
Trying to search in the Hunting & Giuide's reviews isn't working out well for me as I can't seem to be able narrow it down to California & Hogs.
Am I missing something?

JESSE: I agree that it is not easy to search the Hunting/Guide services by location and then you appear to have to have a name to search by. It would be nice if there was a search tool where you could do by location (e.g. key word "central california" or "northern CA".) I tried sorting by zip code but that didnt' seem to work for me either. Most interest appears to be in CA hunting so that might be something to break out if it is easy to do and there would be more use of/access to the Guide information.

eoats: That is why I started keeping my own list of guides in Central CA - simplicity. They are all in JHO but hard to dig out if you don't know about them already. I'd be happy to send my annotated list to you if you want. Just send me an email.

Hey asaxon can you send me the list too? I have a couple new hunters that wants to go hog hunting but I would prefer them to experience private land before going to to public land with me. Thanks!

I am happy to send the list I have made up to you or anyone who is interested. However, send me an email as the list is too long to put in a PM on JHO. My email is - asaxon@mednet.ucla.edu.

Second, the list has some annotation of my personal views (I have taken the choicest comments or any personal information about the guides/families out) so I 'd appreciate it that it does not get "posted". I'm not trying to open a debate of the pros/cons of various guides. My opinion is simply my opinion and I make no representations otherwise.

Send me that email and I'll send it along.

If your email is b*m*h@ and you sent me an email request for the hog list, your spam blocker will not let me send you the message. I have tried but the blocker also will not process my request to be approved - I get an "error" message. I have tried several time and I give up....

Asaxon - I received your email. Very Very helpful and generous of you.

I just gave you an official "Thanks." That's a very cool feature of this site that I haven't seen on others. I need to go back to my first post in the mentors section and throw a few more out to a couple of people who were more than helpful with some good advise for a beginer like myself

Be interested to see his success rate. MANY years ago, a we had a member on here who was running hog hunts on a ranch, just outside of Fresno. He did very well, only problem was he didn't have his guide license and was popped by DFG for that and a few other violations.

If success rates are good, I wouldn't mind going there. Hopefully the ranches are close by.

I thought Deedy at Bryson/Hysperia used to be a sponser and she has nice quarters and lots of ranches she guides on with crops and loads of pigs.
Almost any place out of Parkfield (except larry hamilton) is a good bet, Jack Ranch, Varian Ranch, Hearst Ranch...

How do u get to hunt on Hearst ranch or there other land Jack-ranch. I didnt know that u can hunt Hearst land.??

To my knowledge you can not hunt the Hearst ranch at San Simion. However, Jack Ranch which is a Hearst property can be hunted with Frank Hook, the outfitter they have licensed to hunt that property.

Hook’s Guide Service (Jack Ranch) (hog hunting only, dove hunting discontinued in 2012)

Since you are new to JHO, I'd strongly encourage look around at the "stickys" for lots of good hog intel as well as lots of threads you can read. Do a bit of homework and you'll get lets of very helpful info.

Hey All,

I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a guide that not only gives you a good opportunity to get a hog, but really passes on knowledge of how to hunt them. I am actually more interested in the knowledge and techniques as I would like to take what I learn and apply it to hunting public land.

I've decided I'll give it a few more trips, but if I still have not had my first opportunity by the end of the year, I figure I will be money well spent in the long run by getting a good "here's how you do things right" lesson from a good guide.

Appreciate any advice and recommendations

Maybe to you it's high Pat. Guides and ranchers charge what the market will bare. It's obviously not too high as someone is paying that price. OTOH I could counter and say the price you posted $400 is way too high, FHL is only $100 for a season pass and you can kill multiple hogs there. And Live2Hunt could post and say that's way too high that anyone could go to Cottonwood and kill hogs on public land all year for no charge.

Is it possible to have one hog guide thread where someone doesn't crap on the price guides charge??

check out Miller Bro's expeditions in Parkfield.

I just came back from a hunt with them. They charge about the going rate but work hard to get you on hogs and boast a high success rate.

They have a cabin on sight with a bbq pit, rifle range and awesome view.
