I'm willing to bet I'm the only guy in NYS to ever find a shed off a red stag. About 4 years ago a red stag escaped from a hunting preserve about 15 miles north of here. I heard hehad showed up in the area and was running with a herd of whitetails and they were spending alot of their time on the grounds of Miller Brewery here on the edge of town. I did observe a pretty hammered deer run coming across the road on their property out of some heavy stuff along a swamp when the snow was on. Soon as the snow was off I sneaked in there (restricted) and found one side in about 15 minutes. It had about 4 points and was not a big one. I was absolutely shocked at the size of the rubs that sucker was making in there where he was apparently bedding. Just blew me away--they were about eye level. He must've rubbed standing straight up or whatever. Never found the other side. Later that summer a guy on a nearby farm shot him (unprotected) and I later gave the shed to them.
