There are far too few PH's there, but a whole bunch of Booking agents and outfitters to sell you a hunt!

Imagine the costs to attend this show with a booth. Who's paying for that? I did it one year and after almost 10K in expenses with a booth in the back corner it was a bust that had to be paid by greatly increasing the cost of the hunts to manage the expenses.

SCI gives good booth locations to those who have one every year. It takes many years to get a functional loation! The cost of the booth, with electricity and the additional labor to mange it is stunning to say the least.

It would be a good place to visit if you were looking to spend 20K or more on a hunt for complicated species, or DG. It's very entertaining to walk the floor and see the unreal expensive things for sale. At 125 bucks to get in the door as a visitor, plus meals, hotel and airfare. Well heck that's about 1/2 the cost of the whole trip to RSA! Imagine the additional trophy fee money you would have by using a good Safari company and not wasting the money on this extravagant expense!

The SCI shows are spectacular and you will see how the most wealthy of hunters live. It's a great event. If your in Reno anyhow then it's probably worth it. However to travel all the way there with the expenses involved .......... well I wish you well with that!

It’s also a nice place to walk around – see and meet PHs – see new products – and spend time with family and friends that you haven’t seen in a while.

I would agree with you about flying to Reno from South Africa to attend a show – but to everyone else it’s a great way to spend a weekend.

A weekend at $125 at the door, hotel and meals is under $1000. If your hunts cost $2000 then sign me up. But I don’t think they do and I don’t think I can make up for the cost by playing BlackJack in your lodge like I can in Reno. My plane ticket to South Africa was $2000. Africa is not cheap and this is a great way to find out what PHs are charging and compare it with others.

People that hunt or wish to hunt in Africa should support SCI. Its not just for the rich.

I've been an SCI member for over 20 years and have been a Master Scorrer for them almost as long. I have the highest regard for SCI

However a 5000 dollar PG hunt could just as easily get you an additional 1000-2000 bucks in trophy fees that your spending shopping for a place to hunt.

Kinda like paying a fee to look in a Cabelas catalog!

I understand what Scramjet was talking about. It seems that every time someone creates a post “someone” comes back with something negative to say, every time.

This is a posting form. Not questions for one person to answer.

Let's get back on topic and leave the peeing contest out. The topic was the SCI show in Reno.

My Seasons are full every year without doing an expensive show. If I were to do a show it would run up the cost of the hunt for everyone.

Letrs say I have 12,000 bucks in expenses to to an SCI show. If I have 24 hunters that increases the cost to each hunter by 500 bucks. No outfitter is taking that much out of his profits. It's like Business taxes. The consumer pays all the business tax, and all the sales tax. Who would assume that the business pays the tax out of the profits? These expenses just get passed along to the final user.
