Two of us planned on hunting FHL this weekend up until this morning when we checked to see what TAs were open and only 29 and 30 are available. Does anybody know of any other places were we could do some rifle hunting this weekend? I know it's short notice but any help is appreciated.

don't sell yourself short........grab a shotgun and slugs and do a little practicing........29 & 30 hold more hogs than any other area.......plus it's alot of fun to hunt with primitive weapons........JMO.....good luck whatever you decide.

Not too many options for you. You can try Camp Roberts in Bradley. Or you can go the the Los Pares Natl. forrest. But if you don't have a spot you're probably spinning your wheels and eating up gas.

Los Padres is the closest I can think of near FHL. If you want to camp there you can send an application for a fire permit by fax and they will fax it back pretty quick. It took me maybe an hour to get it back from the forest service. Chech the website for the application.

Thanks for posting that link ks...I didn't know you could do it by fax. That will save some time on the next trip...

Do what BirdDawg says...

Grab a shotgun w/slugs...both of the TA's open this weekend have hogs in 'em. T.A. 29 is pretty consistent...they're both tough hunts though. Expect to wake 'em up outta bed and bring some tick repellant for the brush!

Best of luck to ya!

Alright guys, thank you so much for the tips. I pulled two shotguns out of the cabinet and we are going to try our luck on 29. I have another question. I have a Browning A5 light twelve auto loader, and I have two smooth bores for it, 28" and 30" vented. Which barrel is the better choice to use with Remington Slugger 1oz (it's the only slugs Outdoor World had)? And are those slugs any good for hogs?

Shorter one and I think it would be better if it has improved cylinder choke or modified but I wouldn't shoot it throught full choke.
Those slugs will get them for sure and keep the distance to about 50 yds.

Good luck!
