I had a blast with the guys this weekend and missed two trophy boars (at less than 100 yards) which I caught crap for most of the weekend. I was about to request a name change to Air Force because their motto is "Aim High." And that is what I was doing. Talked to my buddy last night whose rifle I had to borrow while mine was in the shop and come to find out it is 2" high at 100yd not 1". Not that is any excuse for my choking when it counted. When Randy and I were on the second Monster Boar of my hunt, I saw the biggest boar I have ever seen in my life. Back in March a friend said he saw a Monster White boar with some spots. He was running with two other huge boars but this one was pushing 400. Well I got a nice look at him after I missed my second trophy of the weekend. I shot... the black boar I shot at shook his head and then spun around. I went to eject a round and get ready for a second shot. My gun jammed!!! I couldn't get the bolt open. Then another black boar came out from behind a bush as the boar I shot at ran by... then there was this white monster!! Randy was yelling shoot him! Shoot the one in the back! Get him! Take him! I still can't get the bolt open!! Then he turns and wants to know what the heck I am waiting for and I reply I can't get the bot open!!! He takes it and fiddles with it for a few seconds having the same problem I was having. He finally gets it open and we get another rond in. We headed out to see if we could get a shot at Moby Dick. He and the other two trophies were running through the brush and we were not able to get another shot. The next morning, Justin and I went out for one last try. We spotted some hogs that were feeding way off in the distance (about 3/4 of a mile) and my eager guide said, "lets go get'em!" I replied "what do you mean? How fast can we drive around to there?" But I already knew the answer to that question. "We're not, we are going to walk." I said, "yeah right." Justin then told me to get my ass out of the jeep and let's go! Down the mountain we go, back up the next, and the hogs are still there, feeding away. Justin tells me to take a moment to catch my breath. Alright I am ready. Up the last little bit we go and right on cue the wind swirls. The hogs we are looking at catch a wiff and start to head out, but not in a big hurry so we will have pleanty of time to get a shot. As we are sneaking up to the rock that I am going to use to rest on, Justin drops down and points right in from of us. There is a hog right there!! And when I say right there, I mean about 10-12 yards! She is right behind a stump and fallen tree I get down and take aim between the tree and the ground and wait for her to walk into my scope. And just as the script wrote, there she was. BANG!! Hog down! That was quite a nice drag up back to the jeep, but well worth it. My hats off to Randy and Justin for yet another great hunt. There were two bow hunters and Friday night they both had several shots but were not able to connect. Rick shot a great boar Friday night, then Robert had success with his bow Saturday night. Thanks to All of the guys for great food and company! I hope we can make this an annual hunt and look forward to hunting and fishing with you guys in the future!!

OK,Ok,why Moby Dick?Want us to guess????Upper[/b]

I have named this hog Moby dick for two reasons. First he is white and by far the biggest hog that I have seen in California. He was longer than my pickup is wide; looked like a VW Bus running on the side of the mountian. Second reason is how elusive this beast has been and how he has been able to avoid meeting a bullet. The first time this bad boy was spotted by veteran hunter Ron Pemberton, Moby got lucky that Ron's scope was broken (determined after a check back at the rifle range after missing this hog). Then when he presented himself to me after shooting at another large boar, he was about 40 yards running broadside my gun had jammed and I couldn't get the bolt open. He was right there! Right in front of me and I could only watch as I tried relentlessly to get my bolt open and shoot this great beast. I saw him in the area and two other boars he was with, that my friends had back in March. I can only hope to have another chance at this beast, only with slightly different results.

Thomas, good luck on your quest to harvest Moby. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

Is this the big floppy ear pig you told me about before?

Nope, this one is even bigger. Like I said, biggest hog that I have ever seen on the hoof in California. When Don and Ron saw him back in March they said he was a monster. That was the understatement of the year!!! I hope that I am the lucky hunter that sends him off to meet our maker, but regardless who it is, he will be the trophy of a lifetime!!
