Well what can I say other than another amazing hunt with Randy and Justin. We got in Friday afternoon checked the rifles as ususal and headed out for the afternoon hunt! There were four hunters two in one jeep and two in the other. Off we went, Steve and I with Randy, Kris and Mike with Justin. We drove around and for the first time ever we didn't spot a hog on Friday night. I guess that is why it's called hunting and not killing. And even though we didn't spot any hogs Friday night we heard Justin's group fire a couple rounds. Well when we got back to the cabin we were eager to see what the others had scored. Kris had shot a hog but copper bullets made for hours of tracking, most in the dark with flashlights. After several hours of tracking they marked the blood trail and resumed in the morning. While they were continued the tracking I set up on a knoll overlooking a meadow... five minutes into the wait here came the hogs! I waited until they were all in the middle picked out my pig and let the new MRX fly! I hit the calico pig and it squeeled as it spun around a few times. Well then instead of dropping (as I had shot it in the neck) it began to run off again! Now I had seen this story before and thought that I would write a different ending, threw back up and shot spine. Dropped in it's tracks! The MRX did it's job this time leaving an exit wound the size of a golfball. Just and Kris came up to see what I had shot and it wasn't long after that we found her pig. Saturday night it was back up on the meadow for me, and I was rewarded yet again while Mike got his hog on the other side of the ranch. And in typical Mike fashion he shot his pig over 300 yards. What can I say the man can shoot! Sunday morning Steve and Kris went back out and weren't gone 20 minutes before mike and I heard two shots. About 30 minutes later they came back with two more! A small red and a black monster! What can I say other than Randy and Justin have delivered time after time and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Combine that with over 14,000 acres of some of the best hunting ground in the country and you have the recipe for success. Now for the part you guys have been waiting for.... The Money Shots!

congrats cold1!! that copper crap story is unfortunatly one i see time and time again, having to aim for the spine, head or neck
is a load of crap just like the copper, grandpa always taught to "aim for the crease son and let the air out, they wont go far"
the old man would be turnin over in the box if he new what we were mandated to shoot, due to some bird and granolas

Great hunt...great story...even better photos. Red, brown, white, calico...and that big old boar. Great chompers!

As a side note, I'm probably the lone voice when it comes to shooting "copper" bullets. I've had great success with them...but I have the advantage of loading them myself (Barnes 3x). I know exactly how heavy and how hard they're being driven.

Never disappointed me. At the same time, if I could shoot an equally weighted Swift "A-frame" in central Cali. I would, but only because my rifle shoots them better than anything else.

Again...GREAT job and a lively informative post. FIVE STARS!

Kris and Steve's flight back to Oregon went off without a hitch, well after a stop at In-n-Out.

And I would also like to add something that I have noticed in shooting several different loads of Copper. Two loaded by myself and one from the factory. The barnes MRX is a great copper load and performs well if it hits bone. Same with the TSX. I would say that the factory loaded Federal Premium preformed the worst. The tungsten core in the MRX combined with the nosler tip is a solid preformer when it hits bone. The shot in the neck was pencil hole in and out. Same with one I shot two weeks ago. But when these bullets hit bone they get the job done. Plus when converting another rifle to copper, I went with the MRX. My rifle (scope) required zero adjustment. While that may not be the case with every scope/gun it was my experience. I have every bit of faith in the MRX and will shoot nothing else until the ban on lead is lifted... if it is lifted. The only bad thing about this bullet is that to my knowledge it is only available to be reloaded. And 20 of these bullets costs as much as 50 of the TSX. They are worth it! If you reload this is the bullet that I recommend.
