Going to the ranch this weekend. Going to try and hookup Mrs. S with her pig for this year and trying for another myself. We will probably be in the exact same spot I was in at the Ham Slam and any other time we have camped at the ranch. Thinking of trying our hand on some fishing also. Anyone know what works for bait and tackle on the small lake on the North side? Is there any other places anyone knows of to fish on the ranch outside of the main lake off of Lebec? Taking the whole family so any fishing advice pertaining to the ranch would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone is planning on being up on the ranch this weekend drop me a line or just stop by and say hello.

Have fun up there! Sure wish I could get away to chase a hog, but summer booked up way too fast this year.

Oh well... post up pix and stories when ya'll get home!

Have a safe and "boaring" holiday

Sure wish we had some wild or feral hogs near me to hunt. Have had no luck in tracking any down in Indiana

I took a nice pig on Sat. around 3:pM and my brother-in-law took one Sat. evening. We are going to have to find time to go back out to land Mrs. Superdutys. She is kicking herself for not taking a shot Sat. but I have convinced her that she made the right choice. She held on taking a shot at a nice pig because she wasn't sure where her hunting partners were. She knew we were all reall close just not how close. She did what were all trained to do and that is stay safe and pass on the shot. Kudos to the Mrs. from the Mr..

Good job to all, but especially to Mrs Superduty for doing a real hard thing.

Imagine taking the shot and pegging Superduty instead of the hog. How much work it would be to drag his sorry butt out of one of those canyons. And after all the work, you couldn't even eat him! Besides, he seems like he'd be kinda cool to keep around.

Nope, much better to shoot a hog than your hunting companion.

Congrats!

Got at the Ranch Friday around 4:pM. The Mrs. and I glassed two large pigs hanging high on the ridges. We make the hike around halfway and stop due to running out of daylight so we start glassing but have no luck. Sat. morning the rest of the family showed and we check water holes during the heat of the day. Two pigs run across the front of my truck and the excitement begins. We all start scrambling for guns and ammo as I pull off and park. I tore out to the right following where I had last seen them go in the thick brush. My wife and brother-in-law bringing up the rear. I figure there long gone when I look down in the valley and I see pigs playing in the mud. I make a stalk further in the steep thick above them and get ready to shoot. I figure my hunting partners should be right behind me soon but they never come. Knowing they haven't made it past me yet I decide to finally take a shot. BOOM and a miss. I honestly have to say this is the first time I have ever had to take more than one shot on a big game animal but it sure as hell takes some of the pressure off now that I have finally missed.
<
The pigs come running straight across the bottom of me and must have seen the Mrs. and turned straight up towards me. The largest crossed the game trail I was sitting on as it headed up the steep wooded area. It crossed right in front of a large oak and I saw my opportunity to make a safe shot with a good backstop to stop the bullet. Boom, I shoot again and hit her in the neck.

As you can see the tree stoped her from going all the way down giving us a fairly easy recovery.
Sat. evening we set up with me on one side of the mountain glassing to the other side where I had put my wife and brother-in-law. Around 7:30 I see pigs going across a ridge just below him. I raise him on the radio and bleep bleep bleep. Batteries whent dead.
<
I pick up my flourescent chair and start jumping up and down waving it like a mad man. He glasses me and managed to figure out I was pointing out pigs on the next ridge below him. He stalks not knowing the Mrs. is on here way to him to try a shot also. Damb radios didn't get a full charge. Boom he shoots then I hear another. Pigs come out but no hunters. Apparently he got his pig with the first shot then the Mrs. shot at running pigs but didn't get a hit. I made the hike back to the other side to pick them up and a fresh radio but the wife locked the truck and set the alarm.
<
Sitting at the truck in the dark I had grunting pigs all around me by the water. I yelled to scare them off being I couldn't see them but I think I just pissed the big ones off because they really started getting vocal at me and didn't scatter. I decided to leave the truck and hike back in to find them. I had a light straped to my head and found them in three ridges over. My wife was carrying both rifles, two hand guns, backpack, and flashlight I had gave her. Brother-in-law had field dressed and put that hog in a firemans carry over his shoulders ticks and all.
<
We drug that pig untill we hit a spot I had winched my pig out of durring the JHO Ham Slam and managed to drive in and pick it up. All and All it was a great weekend.
