I ran across this in a small museum in Kostroma. Certainly larger than the central cal pigs I have seen.

Those are the European wild boars(Black Forest wild boars in Germany) that Spectr17 keeps referring to as "huge as a Volkswagen". Certainly taller and bulkier than the California Central Coast wild boars. Also the European wild boars grow longer and thicker winter coats that enhance their size and apparent bulk. Ugly looking hairy creatures. I prefer the black, short haired, round bodied pigs in the U.S. The U.S. hybrids are probably better tasting too. I haven't had yet a "gamey" tasting or smelling wild pig in the U.S. They were all luscious, delicious, sweet smelling meat. Yummmy!!!!! 'Nuff said.

It's all about the timing and the feed.
