Well, heres our Hogs......This was taken a few hours after our hunt. A few other guys in our group nailed there hogs the next day.....I'm the kid in the bunch....
Ok, Heres the story. Sorry it took so long guys.....
We met our guides Tom & Blake at 5:15am on Friday. We drove a short time to the ranch we were gonna hunt in San Ardo. Once we were on the ranch we spilt up into to different vehicles before we set out. About 30 minutes into the hunt a herd of pigs (Approx 10 to 15) crossed the road. One of my buddies jumped out of the truck and took a shot just as the pigs were going over the ridge. The shot was low and the pigs were gone. Blake and I jumped in his truck and drove to where he thought they might be. As we were driving I spotted 3 hogs on a slow trot moving parallel on the ridge. There was a 300 feet ravine that was between us and the pigs. We got ahead of the hogs and I jumped out and got the biggest hog in the bunch (150lb Boar) in my crosshairs. The shot was approximately 140 yards. I touched off a round and the 130 grain Winchester Silver Tip hit the hog in the neck. The hog dropped to his belly and began to tumble down the hill end over end. Right about that time I heard 3 other shots from the other guys in my group. Blake took off to try and locate his dog that jumped out of truck 20 minutes prior. My other buddies walked up the road and said they had 3 pigs down in the ravine about a 100 yrds south of mine. I handed my rifle off to my buddy Pat and began the long hike down the ravine to get my hog. When I got down to the bottom I saw my hog about 20 feet from the bottom wedged between a tree. I noticied a small cave in the side of the mountain but didnt pay much attention to it. As I got closer to my hog a Bobcat came out of the cave to investigate what the noise was. That was the biggest damn cat I have EVER scene. The bobcat growled at me and hauled but the other direction. That cat came out of the hole so quick he scared the heck out of me...lol. Anyways, got the hog gutted and dragged him out of the ravine.
That night we saw a few hogs when we were glassing ridgetops, but we didnt connect. The next morning we hunted a different ranch and 3 other guys that joined our group managed to connect on some nice hogs. With 7 pigs down we needed 1 more. My buddy Richard was the guy who jumped out of the truck in the first 30 minutes and missed a shot, so needless to say he was bumed. We had one more crack at it on Saturday evening. Blake took us to a ranch that was out in Lockwood. Our plan was to glass a Barley field and wait for them to come to us. We glassed and glassed with no luck. Blake, Richard and I were about 20 yards apart looking at different areas of the barley field. The sun was down and it was getting close to dark. All of a sudden I hear Richard whisper something and point down to the field. I turned around and put my binos right were he was pointing. I saw a lone boar walking through the field. We formed a plan to stock the boar and get a clean shot. From where we were sitting it would of been a 300 yard + shot and Richard didnt feel comfortable. We circled around and stocked the boar to within 75 yards. Richard raised his 300 Weatherby and took a shot. He hit the hog square, the hog dropped. Two secounds later the hog gets up and starts to quater away from us. Richard shoots a second time and hit the hog in the head and drops it in its tracks. All in all, this was a great hunt. We went "8 for 8", and we all got nice pigs. Tom & Blake are great guides and they have access to some great property up in the King City/Paso Robles area.
