That really stinks. Taking the high road was probably the better option. Certain areas of CNF get bombarded by hunters during parts of the season so there is obviously some friction with some local land owners despite CNF being our public use land. I always carry a local BLM/CNF map like you and generally my iPad. I also store in my vehicle the biggest pair of bolt cutters Home Depot sells in case i get into a bind (but have yet to use). Friday my Garmin Oregon arrives along with the CA hunting GPS map software. I can't wait and should solve all problems with locals and law enforcement.

Most of the Smart Phones have a GPS chip that works independently from the Cell Tower. RECON HUNT will store maps in advance for use outside the Cell Tower range.

The Cell Phone method leaves a lot to be desired while out in the field, but it's fantastic while playing with it at Starbucks.

I use both. I primarily rely on my CNF mapbook and use the GPS feature on my smartphone to pin point my location.

Where do I get a good map for hunting in this area? I'm planning on going scouting next week. I'll be wearing my GoPro so that I capture any problems or wildlife. I'm not looking for trouble. I'm looking for pigs.

Thanks,
Richard

I went straight to the CNF main office in Rancho Bernardo. But I think you can pick up one at any of their offices. Call them first to make sure they sell them. The new 2012 edition just came out and I am going to go get one. They are, I think, only $18 and worth it!

Thanks. It looks like I'm going to be driving to San Diego again.
