Live2hunt,
No, just one hog---the dry sow. Sorry 'bout the "boar" confusion. I've never seen groups of hogs at San Louis---always singles. I'm sure they are bedding across the road on the unhuntable state property and coming down to feed and water in the arm of the lakebed on the San Louis side.

PLH,

With your success in public hunts (duh, the avatar/handle), I think you have other secrets and knowledge than the brief tips you've made here.

Can I be your student?

Mr. Beastslayer,
I'm sure you do well in the field already. It's just hunting basics---look for SELECTIVE food, water, cover.... and have lots of patience. Most public places have a little of both---it's just a matter of hitting all three at the right time. With it being hot with no rain for the last coupla months, any low-lying place with moist soil and new growth should be a good place to start looking. Well, you still got 11 days to fill one of those tags. I imagine a few more hogs will come out of Cottonwood and San Louis once deer season starts and more people are out there. Of course there's different strategies for hunting then, too. Gotta adapt to keep in the game (no pun intended).

Still waiting for my A-24 tag,
PLH

PLH,

Thanks!

I really admire your success -- and patience -- at Cottonwood. Have been there a couple of times on my trip to NorCal. Been to some of the springs which always seem guarded in the perimeter by several hunters. There are lots of clowns there too who'll start target shooting at 7:30 a.m. (did not quite read the posts here that some pigs get whacked past 8 a.m.)

I wish you continued success -- and into A-24. Keep posting.
