Any idea of how these bulls would score? I have seen some better bulls but no pics of them. Im hoping for a 320+ bull and I know thats shooting for the stars with this hunt and the population of bulls but I know there are a few if I can just find them. I tule score is so different from rockies, Im having a rough time really getting some numbers on them. Dont get me wrong, Im not a record book hunter but I do want to harvest the best bull I can with a once in a lifetime tag as this one is.

Not seeing too many broken off, if at all. Those tules sure have neat looking racks! Good luck on your hunt.

Buckhunter has it right, those are 270 class bulls. 320+ B&C class bulls live at Grizzly Island. But you never know, there could be a 300 tule bull hiding somewhere near there.

I know of two 300+ bulls killed, one last year and another the year before in the same area as these bulls. I am hunting a lot of private ground for this hunt and have seen better but no pics. I will be back out end of bext week and try to get some pics.

Smithstation, do you have anyone helping you scout? I know of some private ranches in the area that charge a small kill fee. Hunting at dinosauer pt. is bow only, no longer shotgun and bow. With the lake so low it will require some coaxing to get the elk on the huntable ground. Have you contacted the other two hunters in your unit? Most bulls will leave the higher private ranches for the "lowlands" during the hunt. Have seen a nice bull at Portguee cove while fishing last week. The bulls look in good shape and are not broken as of yet, cross your fingers. They really start to fight and break around the end of sept. just before the hunt.

How does one get lucky enough for such a hunt? If I remember correctly, this hunt is actually quite costly, isn't it? Either way, you are lucky to be hunting elk there and I hope you nail a BIG one. Can't wait for your pics and story.

Twisselmans????

Caleb has heeled a lot of steers for me.

Im not into paying big $$ to shoot a bull, not opposed to it I just dont have that sort of $$..... I have friends around the lake that I have worked with or for and like all good cowboys, when someone needs something they pull together and take care of the problem. I went from no private ground to over 22k acres. I have access to more ground but I think this 22k acre ranch has the bull I want. It borders portiguese (well when its not dry) but we can hunt from basalt to dino. There are a lot of bulls over on that west side of the lake. I just dont want to shoot too small of a bull. I have botw using some footage from this hunt (if its a success) as well as a B&C scorer that will be with me before I pull the trigger. I am truly blessed to have the guys coming to my aid when I need them. Going to cost me a lot of keystone.... keystone cowboys are awesome!!

sweet. more hunting cowboys. Do u guys rope pro or just jack pot? it was cool to read that Clayton from Bitterwater is NFR cowboy. Got to b a thrill to get to play in that game. That's a nice day roping. Real cool to be in the top 15 of the world.

Congrats on your hunt. good luck out there.

I dont have my PRCA card and probably wont get one. Once you have a card they will bump you a few numbers in the other associations. I hit a lot of the world series ropings, won Salinas this year. Spencer Mitchels dad, Steve has heeled for me at the WS ropings, great guy and great family!! We jack pot (ACTRA) almost every weekend and will hit a few CCPRA rodeos a year, mainly stuff close to home. Lots of good cowboys around here that rope also love to hunt. Doing day work or branding for the big ranches has sure gotten me into some great hunting. I rope with Cody Cowden, Daniel Green, Lockett brothers, lots of other PRCA guys but I dont have the funds to go down the road like they do. I will spin steers at Codys place when the CA rodeos are going on and the PRCA guys will stop buy to freshen up their horses. Spencer Mitchel, Russel Cardoza, and several others are regulars at his arena. Russels sister is married to Clayton Cowden, Codys cousin. Rodeo runs and jack pots are really different and hard if you use the same horse. lol Good luck this fall!!
