Was looking at my D.f.g pig hunting book and saw the San Luis reservoir map in the back.It says pigs are trasient to the area anybody ever tried huntig out there?
I pass by there all the time and someone posted some pics here some time ago of about 5 pigs swimming in the reservoir. It's a shotgun only area too, so watch that. They're out there, but as always, it's all about being at the right place at the right time with hogs. Good luck to you.
Its a Wildlife Area, Upper Cotton Wood. I'ts open right now for deer and pig. Pig will remain open until last sunday of the next January. Pigs are definitley there. Lots of deep draws and canyons. Try catching them as they cross between the private ranches on ther ear of the property. It would be a mighty nice haul if you got one back there though. If you plan to go for hogs, let me know. I have permission to access the rear area through one of the ranches. Its walk in only still, but it would be a lot easier to get something out. I go in from across the street of the Dinosaur point entry area.
Here's one of the pigs we caught swimming. It was not near the area of San Luis WA, it was on the other side in Portugese Cove.
Lat year at Topock in Arizona we saw two big Boars swim out across a narrow channel to an island. We tried to motor over there but they got up and out fast.
i was just there last saturday for the first time my friend and i was checking the area out so lot of signs, but there old ones and its shotgun with slugs and archery only.lots of acorn probably be back when they start to fall.
Thanks for the info Bubba. So it was you that posted the pic! My girlfriend's mom lives up in Gilroy and I go up to the area often. Next time I'm up there I'll definitely take you up on heading up there together. I also hear the bass fishing is awesome off Dinosaur point at San Luis Res.
By the way Bubba, since you live up in Los Banos, have you ever tried B&B outfitting in Los Banos? I got a brochure from them and they do $375 for a 2 day hunt and you can stay in their on-site cabin. The only thing they require is that you have a 4x4 and the guide drives your vehicle in the ranch.
Actually, never heard of B&B. I can look into it for you and ask around. DO they have a website. Driving my rig around? Sounds kind of funny that you have to bring the transportation and then can't drive it. Hmmm. I'll send you a PM on my contact info.
