Headed out to look for some pigs with my dad and sister (who has never gone with us before, and is just now in the process of taking her hunters saftey).
Spotted a group of about 5 hogs right at first light in an area we've seen them on many other trips. Made our way along the finger ridge to get the right angle on them. We lost them for about 20 minutes, and then to our surprise they reappeared in the same exact clearing.
the larger clearing in the middle here
My dad was up, since he hasn't scored in a while. Rangefinder said 200. Boom, 130 gr Barnes MRX right behind the ear. Pigs scattered and the nice size sow tumbled about 100 yards straight down into the bottom of the canyon.
that was about 7am. we boned it out down near the bottom, and decided to head all the way back to the road up through the bottom (following the stream). Well that was the wrong move. Probably would have been easier to hoof it straight back up. Anyways 5 hours later and 3 empty water bladders later, we find the road and happen to get a ride back up to the truck, sweet! BTW That stinging nettle is no joke! especially when you somehow slip and it goes right up into your armpit!
anyways. my sister had quite an experience on her first time out.
also took a little bit of video with my new camera. check it out. If you have a good connection it should stream pretty cleanly. Its streaming HD.
nothing special, just testing it out for the 1st time, as well as testing the rendering quality to post it in HD on vimeo.
