saw bunch of pigs on panoche road

On my way to a ranch to look for pigs, I saw about 6 of them on Panoche road about 10 miles east of 25 at about 5am. right next to a decent size pig that had been freshly killed on the road. one small piglet and the rest were about 80-120 lbs. i figure this is private property in this area, just thought i would share. sure enough those were the only pigs i saw all day too.

Little confused. What city, county, area, any info...........where's the 25? Is this up north or SoCal? Just curious.
Too bad on no pigs at that ranch, maybe another day or even just sit out one evening with night scopes.

They're all over that area, but you're right... they're mostly on private land.

Big, dead pig must've been mama. How fresh? Nothing wrong with road-killed pork tenderloin!

I have been back there quite a bit on all the public land. And as usual, no matter what you see otherwise, as soon as you set foot on a public plot of land, there will be no pigs. Just a bunch of morons hunting until nine and then starting target practise. No wonder there are no pigs, if you start WWIII every weekend after 9 am.

sorry this is panoche road between I-5 and 25 in central california (central coast) area. i had heard about there being BLM land out there. i had never travelled this route, but i imagine the BLM part is the real dry barren area way before you get to 25.

the kill honestly looked only minutes old. but i was loosing daylight fast and really didn't give it much thought.
i'm pretty sure the pig was one of the original group and the others were hanging around to see if he would get up.

Public land down there always is the dry barren part or if it has vegetation, it is covered with chaparral and thickets unpenetratable to man. There is a reason these are public plots.

My analysis of pig life is that they sleep in the chaparral and then move out to the farms at night. If you have a spot with little pressure, you may be able to intersect, but all public land that I have been on has so much pressure, the pigs will come out after dark.

Or if he would be ready to eat soon. Extra protein never hurts in the diet. That thing would have been in my truck before his friend's would get him! Like Speck said, some roadkill tenderloins!

That's so true. Beautiful country up there. Afer reading this thread I thought about taking an early morning sunday drive there with the rifle - just in case ... but with gas prices where they are, that will be a $50 trip - nevermind. I will save my money for P.O.R.!

i know a ranch up their ive been on alot theirs alot of pigs and we get realy close to them its almost not any fun anymore theirs to many i have full freezers and dont need any more i have 7 tree cams their trying to catch a deer were seeing their hes a 17 point non typical stag he stays in velvet and looks realy cool if i get him ill post it for all to see the record typical was 152 last year buy a guy named knoll and theis should shatter it but its nontypical oh well still impressive

I broke down up there one afternoon trying the shortcut on the dirt road from I-5 going to Choppers. After all the spooky tales about Pig Valley and New Idria you guys posted here I got my brake problem fixed real fast and got the heck out of there before sundown.

I never did see any pigs but it looked good. I wanted to stop by the little roadside bar/cafe? in Panoche but I was spooked already.

Jesse, you should have stopped. The place is run by a guy named Larry and his wife. They serve mostly sandwiches and cold beer. Very nice folks. The local ranch hands drop in for a beer and pool and most of them like to shoot pigs also.

thats true larry is very cool i see him every week when i got their with hunters 2 1/2 hour drive but well worth it lots of verious game in the area. and the stories they tell arnt so bad if you stop bring a dollar bill youll need it for the wall.
