Finally the new AR15 6.8spc broke its blood virgin. A 207 lbs. Had to make it two pieces to hauled it down a ravine to the road at the bottom of the canyon. Shot it at 7:45pm Saturday evening and got all of it down to the truck at 9:30pm. Did the skinning on the tailgate. The little guy got the honor with the knife.

Sorry, it was the only pic I got with the camera phone. Forgot my digital camera in Iowa.

The bipod did not come down. The grass was too tall so I had to standup and slide the forearm stock over a tree branch.

Yep....That is mini-me. He'll be 12 next year and will be in Tejon with all of us. Come back to Tejon next year and we'll get you a pig for sure.

What 6.8 bullet did you use and how many grains was it? Did you get a complete pass through or were you able to recover the bullet?

AND...thank you (L2H & XDHUNTER) for helping chop that pig of mine up into manageable pieces. It was fun to watch you guys work. It is a if you guys have done it a few dozen times :)

I have not yet got into reloading so after trying a few different type of ammo at the range, the only one that shoot well out of my gun was the 85 gr. Barnes TSX from Silver State Armory. It seemed as if the faster velocity ammo, the tighter the group gets on my gun. So I'm shooting SSA's commercial and tactical load of Barnes TSX. Commercial loads are at 2920 fps and the tactical is at 3100 fps. This pig got the commercial load. The bullet went in behing the ribcage and angled up into the front shoulder on the exit side. The bullet did not exit because it crushed the spine and the opposite shoulder blade. Bullet lodged right inside the hide on the exit side. I think it would have been a pass-thru if it was a straight broadside shot.

About the chopping, it was only my first time....hehe.

You don't have a picture of the bullet do you :) Mine passed through which I was happy about, but I would have liked to see one of those 6.5 100gr Barnes TTSX bullets after it had done the deed.

So when are we going to get you into reloading? It is addictive :) If XDhunter gets the 6.5-284 he was talking about, he will almost have to start reloading to get the most out of it.

What were you shooting the hogs with before the 6.8? Are you happy enough with the 6.8 performance to make it your go-to hog rifle?
