Friday night I set the alarm on the cell phone to 4am and went to bed. I awoke to heavy rain thundering on my roof. I looked at the clock and it's 6:30am. I jumped out of bed and cursed myself. It turned out the cell phone was on vibrate mode. I had two missed calls from two of my buddies. I decided since it was raining, we'll make the best of it. Woke up mini-me and we started packing. It didn't take long before we were on the road. At 9:20am we were rolling on muddy roads in our hunting ground. All of a sudden I looked uphill and here comes three hogs trotting down to cross the road infront of us. We bailed out and just as they crossed, I dropped the hammer on the leading hog. Mini-me continues to send Barnes TSX from the 6.8 at the two hogs running away. I heard another gunshot from behind us and turned to look. It was one of my buddy. Not sure where he came from but he showed up and started firing at the same hogs. A few BANGS! later only one hog made it across the big open valley and up the other hills into the tree line. It was a 5 minute hunt and our personal best for short hunt. We had a little dragging work to do and then off to get them skin. Saturday evening hunt was not so productive as it rained on and off throughout the day and all fresh signs were washed away. That evening we also saw another buddy (not knowing he was going to show up for the weekend) working the same spot we were hunting. Mini-me wanted to stay for the night and try to get him a shot at a hog the next day. So we reclined the seats of the truck and crashed away.

Sunday morning the roads are more drivable as the rain had stopped all night. All we wanted to do is get to one of my glassing spot at the top of a high point. The plan was for me to drive ahead and two of our buddies in another truck play follow the leader from behind. Their truck had winch so if I get stuck, they can pull me out and we can turn around. Luckily the road wasn't as bad as we thought and we made it to the glassing spot. 20 minutes into glassing and I spotted some black dots way down in the valley. A closer look with the bino and the chase was on. We have about a mile of slip-slide-fishtail around the roads to get to those black dots. We stopped at about 300 yards from where we originally saw the black dots and bailed out for the stalk. I was guiding mini-me, pushing his butt to walk up to a ledge that overlook down into the open flat where I think we will get a 60 yard shot. Two buddies tucking behind us. As we peeked over the ledge, the hogs had move towards the ledge and were just 15 yards infront of us not knowing we were there. Three shooters each picked a hog in their cross-hair and on 3 with my signal, BANG!BANG!BANG! Two hogs dropped in their track. One hog ran about 15 yards and piled up. One buddy emptied his magazine, changed magazine, and emptied it again on the running hogs. He end up dropping another sow about 150 yards away. After all the shooting, I asked him why he kept shooting when there are already 3 hogs down. He said, "I got 3 tags." We drug all the pigs in a pile and snapped some pics. After gutting them, it was time to head back to camp and get those things skinned.

Man... I'm coming up next weekend and if there are no pigs left, I'm heading to L2H's house and taking my pig from his freezer. Must of been a hell of a weekend.

Hey, One pig got away from the group of 3 we shot at on Saturday. There were 8 pigs in the group we saw on Sunday. We killed 4 and 4 got away for someone else to shoot another day. If you come up on a day that I'm there, I'll have one tied to a tree for ya......hehe.

When encounter a group of pigs, I usually just shoot one and sometime two if I'm in the mood to clean it and have the tags. Now I know what it is like to bring along a couple buddies with a few tags in their pocket. There may soon be no more pigs for us to hunt.

Too bad they weren't there for me to shoot on saturday when I was in that area. I blame it on the rain making the roads hard to drive on. We almost got stuck so we set out on foot. You sure do have some luck as the hogs just come to you...lol! Great job! Small world the guys I hunt with use to hunt with you back in the days!

Lol! Now they are our students...well at least Bobby is! He's bound to graduate one day when he shoots his first animal. Have been taking him deer hunting showing the right way to do it and put in boot time instead of just driving around hoping to get lucky. We'll have to go again soon!
