I was wondering if there was an official scoring system for wild boar (farrel hog)?

Just wondering because today I shot a monster with my muzzle loader! He was over 10 inches eye to snout and tusks were over 3 inches to the gum.

Length of Skull + Width of Skull + length of tusks pulled out of skull, I think.

I asked Bowhntr last weekend and I think this is what he told me.

Yes, there is a official scoring system. Take the weight plus the circumferance of the two bottom tusk (plus length of two bottom tusk after mutiplied by 50) will give you the score.

rnj......what is that the official scoring system for? Using the weight of an animal to help determine 'trophy' class seems a bit odd.

Great boar!!!

If it's a bowkill, you can have an official CBH Measurer score it for you.

CBH (California Bowmen Hunters) includes wild hogs in their record book. Their official measuring system is like Lurediver mentioned.

Length of skull from front to back on a horizontal plan, plus width on a horizontal plane, plus length of tusks. There is a 60 day drying period. If you can extract the tusks in one piece, you can get full measurement of each tusk. If the tusks are still in the skull, you can only measure what is showing. If the tusks have been removed, you must prove that the tusks belong to the skull, by sliding them back in place. The scorer must make a judgement call based on how perfectly the tusks fit on the skull to determine if the tusks belong to that skull, (in more words than less.)

Congrats on a great hog.

Here is the full shot I'm still trying to upload the one of just his choppers.

He topped out our scale so I took the rope that ran through a pulley on a branch put him on the gambrel tied a loop on and tried to use my weight as a counter balance ( kinda a generic balance scale) and could'nt get more than his rear off the ground!! I come in at 260lbs.

Good hog, nice and fat. How big were his teeth, he looks to be about 2 7/8". Chopper the photos load just fine for me.
Heck I can almost read what the tag says.

My buddy shot his the day before.
DSCF1672.jpg

Here is my story
I passed on one of similar size (as his) hoping for a smaller one the day before. I set out early that morning trying to get to a pond that we saw some sign at. On my way there I heard some rustling in the leaves and moved in closer I saw some birds moving in the trees and almost discounted the noise as birds then I heard it again down a little further I olooked through the oaks and saw a big boy and actully cussed a little (I hadent realized yet how big he was) I was looking for chops not sausage! So I sat down hoping he had a few others with him not seeing any, I put the gun on him with no itention of shooting him and when he walked out of the trees I about craped my self. He had a high back, no neck and a long nose I knew he would look good on my wall. I have a few Euro mounts but none worthy of "THT WALL" I knew when I saw him he was. I placed the sight in his shoulder and took a breath held and squeeeeeezed, BAM. I jumped up to see over the cloud and I saw him cart wheel back down the draw, In all the excitement I tried to reload and dropped the powder on the ground "#$%@$%^" no second shot. Then I see him fall and I jump for joy First kill with the Muzzle loader and he's a wall hanger. I went back to the cabin to get the quad and my Buddy and go back and see him for the first time. When we got there I couldnt believe just how big he was, he just got better and better the closer we got. then I saw his cutters and knew I had made the right choice. I used the winch to get him out of the draw and he just pulled it down the hill with me on it! so I had to pull him out under power. We tried to pick him up no dice we had to use a tree to winch him up to get him on the quad. So with ear to ear grins we haeded back to the cabin for a trophy cape jb and a lot of cutting!

Hope you enjoy the story!

I didn't think they did but I looked it up. SCI scores feral boars. I think they have two categories (estate & free ranging).
