I just got a look at your pics....... Jebus that pig has some scary cutters! He looks a little crazy in the eyes, too. I wouldn't knowingly get within 100 yards of that pig. Good luck - if you get him, you will have earned it!

I'm not big on trophy mounts, but I'd consider that one for the wall. :smile-yellow:

Get one while you can. The forest supervisor signed the eradication plan last week. It'll include trapping, professional hunters with dogs and aerial gunning. Those hogs will be gone soon.

Yah , what lt said ! You are in posession of trail cam pics and have personal knowledge of the whereabouts of the evil SD strain of wild oinkers ! G-Men troll the internet and will probably come to your residence with a search and arrest warrant and force you ( waterboard ) to give up your honey hole lat/lon for future eradication efforts ! If you don't succomb to their interogations I'm positive you will be imprisoned for aiding and abetting the apocolyptic strain of SD swine that imperils the very existence of civilized society !

God be with you Wild1 !

Thank you Mex! We're so lucky to have all these nice people looking after us and using our tax dollars to eradicate satan's spawn - instead of actually making money and enjoying another revenue stream by allowing hunters to control the numbers of these evil monsters. I may have to alter my strategy, set down the Z7 and switch to the boom stick before they're all gone :(

Finally: I was never able to find the beastly boar again, but I was able to whack one of his kids(?). I've hunted and/or scouted every weekend, but two, since I started this thread (18 out of 20 weekends), had some close calls, some bad luck, some wind changes and a bad shot, but in the end I was finally able to connect on a 21 yard shot, at tough angle and make one of my best shots ever. Three hogs, at least two of which were young boars, stepped into my shooting lane at 7:25pm and I had to take a shot I've been having some difficulty with (having missed a similar shot a month ago) - an extreme downhill angle.

This time I was sure to bend at my waist and aim low and the shot was perfect. I waited ten minutes or so, followed a decent blood trail, and twenty-five yards later, I found my DIY public land hog. But here's the strangest thing ever: I got my camera and field dressing kit out and just then I began to hear branches breaking about 15 yards away! This is very unusual to me - usually if there is more than one pig, they immediatley bolt at the shot, never to be seen again. I cautiously began to set up my camera and more branches break - the sun is setting fast and this is making me more than a little nervous. Sometimes I carry a sidearm when I hunt solo, and since I had only three arrows in my quiver (I know, but I've been very busy and haven't had time to go shopping), this was one of those times I was carrying.

As the breaking branches continued, I took out my handgun and promptly chambered a round, just then the gun promptly jammed and quickly became useless!! Now I'm getting more "concerned" because whatever was out there breaking branches (my thought was that maybe one of the young boars circled back) was still there. I nocked another arrow (now only one left in my quiver), took a step or two away from my downed hog and out of nowhere, about 18 yards away, a huge boar walks across my line of sight. But it's not the big boar I've been chasing, it's another never-seen giant with it's cutters clearly visible!! What the hell is going on! I draw back, but there's too much vegetation, he notices something moving (me) and stops, turns and walks back (still broadside). Then he faces me at 15 yards, and I'm thinking soley about self-preservation.

No hunting partner, no sidearm and only two arrows, as a monster boar faces me at 15 yards. I settle my pin on his chest and fire. The arrow seems to find it's mark and the boar bolts. It's now almost dark....what to do...? First thing I do is clear my head and ask myself what just happened!! I now have one arrow left and not too many options. I look for blood from the big boar but on a frontal shot I know I'm not gonna find any for awhile, plus I know I have some work to do and a hell hike out. I take some quick pics, field dress my boar and start my long, difficult hike out. Took me almost three hours to get to my truck and I was beat up pretty good. I went back at first light, but no blood, no arrow and no boar. I'll go back again tomorrow, hate the thought of a wounded animal, but I'm enjoying the fact that I'm still healthy! Good luck fellas and stay safe out there.

Wild1 - that is outstanding! Great story and harvest. Hopefully you'll find the 2nd one. And 18 of 20 weekends is a lot of consistent outings. My closest recent encounter consisted of just 2 grunts about 75 yards in the bushes. I think he winded me. Your success gives me some hope. ###

This definitely the best hog hunting story I've seen after a bit of lurking. Got me riveted to this thread for updates.
Great to see all the hard work and patience pay off for you!
